Problem these days most brits get it too coushty!! Sitting in the house playing on xbox going out weekends drink and drugs etc or do they go work a 50hr week, hard work etc its not the employers to blame its society!!

Iv worked on a few farms aswell as home, worked in supermarket etc been told its closing next year (after 11 years personal service) now pondering on what do i do next year? Dont want to go work on another farm as leaves me unable to be home (small flock of my own ewes etc) plus theres not many in the area, so looking at hgv, but there are so many people working in this supermarket with no idea what they going to do and have no will power to better themselves, get more skills!! It really winds me up!!

I once worked down west , the crops were spuds , daffs and bulbs, workers were unskilled but so was the work , "managers" shown them what was required and they cracked on , hard working people , for them the attraction was they earned 3-4 times as much as back home so they were prepared to live and work under crappy conditions.
So exactly what was the problem?

Yes but I failed to understand the exact nature of the problem
Everyone has to make sacrifices
Well if you are happy to work for less than minimum wage and under poor conditions all for the benefit of the big supermarkets forward me your details , I`ll find you plenty of work .

As for everyone having to make sacrifices , generally British workers dont have to , you can flip burgers in McD`s for minimum wage and go home every night , you`d have to be a bit special to choose a more difficult job that didnt pay enough to live on , had no future and made it very difficult to see your family.

I pointed this out in am earlier post if the fruit pickers are paying of a mortgage at home they will be sending back 4x what they could be earning at home
I would pick fruit for 4x what i could earn in aldi but farms wont pay nearly 40 an hour

I`d happily work overseas in rough conditions for 4x my salary as well , the only work Ive seen that pays that sort of money involves being shot at , getting too old for that. :)

thats it then.... you have answered the bigger picture question.........

Its down to the induvidual on what he/she has to do in order to (live/eat/provide roof over head) at whatever standard will suit them........

all the rest of the issues are just market forces...

Well yes of course and the point is migrants may not come here post Brexit so conditions and pay will have to rise to attract UK workers , foreigners will put up with the poor pay and terms as many dont speak English but UK workers dont have to , they can work in unskilled jobs for at least minimum pay and go home every night, there will be a wake up call for all big operators/buyers/supermarkets who are currently dependant on migrant workers.

Surely the difference between migrant workers and british is that the british get paid to stay at home doing nothing, where as a migrant worker sitting at home doing nothing would starve to death, had a migrant chap in the yard the other day, he said the british don't realise what a good country they live in, he also said its the only country in the world where you can make a career of having children.

Or indeed the country shall just import the bulk of the food......

It may well be certain sectors of agriculture could stop overnight..

this cert aint the cheapest place to do business in the world.....

and to boot... Food security is but political lip service.....

I`ll think you`ll find the type that sit at home on benefits will always do so regardless of what work is available or whatever the pay rate is, all countries have that type , where there`s no benefits they live off crime . Go to London and see how many Rumanian`s and Bulgarians there are without work or benefits , crime is how they survive.
There are however millions of Brits who are on minimum or very low incomes who work hard but would rather go home to their families every night rather than live in a caravan with a load of hairy a*sed workers and maybe see the family once a month, why wouldn't you if you have a choice?
I agree Britain is far to soft with the benefits system but we all need to remember that many farmers and farmer workers depend of tax credits and family allowance, how many farmers with young families here dont draw benefits ?
