I Live To Hear the Cuckoo Again

Heard it on 23d early for us.

I heard it here about 10-12 days ago, but not a complete call, kind of just the first half of it, which struck me as strange because that usually comes at the end of their “season” doesn’t it?

Not heard from them since.

99% sure I heard one here about 10 days ago. One percent chance it was a pigeon.
Sounded like a cuckoo but the pigeons are very good at imitating them, if it was a pigeon it was the best imitation yet.

First heard and seen on 22nd, which is about usual for here really.

Not heard the cuckoo since the nineties here and then it was usually May. Swallows are late this year, usually about 10th but non so far.

Haven’t heard one in a few years. Used to be the signal that we were getting late on getting the corn in.

On R4 Tweet of the day today they had the female cuckoo call, I wondered if that would explain your "half call".

He’d the cuckoo mid April sometime but Jesus Mary and Joseph (and the wee donkey) the cuckoo’s around here haven’t shut up for a week, all circa 1 mile away.
