I remember when a 100hp tractor had 6 cylinders.

Not that long ago, JD 3050, Ford 7810, MF6260, Case 5130.

Are there any 6 pots under 150 hp now?

Its all relative. When we bought our first 100 hp + tractor it looked enormous, however l remember at the time my uncle saying that in the days of The "Grey Fergie" him seeing a Massey Harris 744D for the first time and was bowled over by it's size.
46hp ! (But a 6 cylinder Perkins nonetheless)

I think there's a few around 145hp, bottom end of the Puma/T7 range or top end Maxxum/T6, or a John Deere 6145R. Someone said to me that it won't be long before their 6 cylinders start at 180hp, not sure what brand that was though.

It doesn't seem that long ago, but all those tractors are either considered classics now, or will be shortly. Probably quite a few still working that people won't want to part with.

See that’s rubbish. Simple systems and block calve with little machinery would give a very good life style and pay the bills. We humans complicate things to the benefit of other human beings. Not ourselves.

Smaller farms dropped on the idea that they could keep a lot more cows and produce a lot more milk by buying in alternative feeds . But that was born when alternative feeds were cheap. Brewers Grains and Pressed Pulp at £20/ton where to cheap ro resist . Once your on that kind of system its hard to change

When 'GPS' meant lining up with a certain stone in a distant long stone wall - which soon started to look like several other stones

I used to use a tree several miles away on the skyline. Then somebody went and cut it down. Three fields were drilled on straights heading for it. Oh dear!

To continue on Dad smoking the pipe and me learning to steer. Dad had a Mk1 cortina with a bench seat in the front. He would be driving with me in the front seat and would need to light the pipe,. So he would tell me to slide over beside him and steer while he lit the pipe and watched what I was doing, "up a bit, down a bit, keep her straight" at about 50mph. Funny thing is he never did that when mum was in the car. I would have been about six or seven at the time,

A pal of mine used to do this in his fathers Austin Gypsy and change gears when on the road when we were both about 11. On the farm he drove it himself all the time.

Don’t get me wrong I like a quick simple parlour. I like good tracks and well fenced paddocks. I also like a loader/scrapper tractor I like a batlatch but after that everything else is unnecessary complication for cheap efficienct milk production

You and me may make a living on a few cows .
I know some with hundreds if not thousand and up to their neck and skint?
Funny old world out there!

Feeded chained stores in cowshed,carrying water to them cleaning out .
Dung heaps as high as you could fork it too.
