I still don't see the issue.

Who has the 20+ billion funding black hole?

Who has the prospect of having to implement actual border controls and sift through truck loads of goods and train or truck loads of people?

Not the UK.

The UK will put on border controls for the same reason as the EU, just wait and see!

Go back a 1000 yrs in history and England plundered their way around the world , taking control of countries and bringing home all the valuables they could to the kingdom. That day is thankfully gone but a big blond clown still thinks he can bully his way around Europe , somebody needs to tell him that England can't repeat history.

Go back 1000yrs and.....

“1000 Years Ago — A New King for England. On this day, one thousand years ago, Sweyn Forkbeard was proclaimed King of England, and while he reigned unopposed, his reign was to be short. ... Sweyn I Forkbeard, King of Denmark and Norway raided England on several occasions, but his main attack took place in August 1013.”

Sounds like England was being plundered by Forkbeard of Denmark.

500 before that it was colonised by the Romans.

If you’re playing the empire card at least get the dates right.

Cool
Will be interesting to see who takes the title

Brussels does have one huge advantage in that it doesn't have an 'opposition' trying to force it to act against it's own interests. I guess that's the price we pay for living in an actual working democracy and that is what we are fighting for.
It's a shame 'liberals' can't understand that basic premise.

I thought they had the EU parliament, with members of many different views, who could debate things?

Maybe they have no power to reject or modify directives from above though?

The Commission has a virtual monopoly on the introduction of legislation into the legislative process, a power which gives the Commission considerable influence as an agenda setter for the EU as a whole.[1] And while the Commission frequently introduces legislation at the behest of the Council or upon the suggestion of Parliament, what form any legislative proposals introduced take is up to the Commission.

United we stand divided we fall, there is strength in numbers , when the eu got together for peace and business reasons after ww2. The eu countries could then protect themselves from the rest of the world . It has worked great and all eu countries have become very prosperous compared to before the eu started, or the rest of the world , the eu has on average the highest standard of living in the world. And now the uk want to go it alone again.
How are EU countries going to protect themselves from the rest of the world exactly?

There are three things that have kept the peace in Europe for decades.

1. America and NATO, and the USSR. The balance of power was nearly equal and you were either under the umbrella of one, or were threatened directly by the other.

2. Nuclear weapons. See above.

3. The Germans and their national identity dealing with the consequences of being licked twice and facing the prospect of being the battleground yet again for two foreign opponents.

If of course you can define it as 'peace' given that there have been numerous regional conflicts since the end of WW2 and the EU has done jack about it. On the contrary, with an ridiculous open border policy I'd say they have actually made terrorism easier.

As you have proved over and over for the last three years. Democracy is over rated. Still off topic.

I didn’t think BJ scurrying around Europe was compatible with his hard nosed stance.
