Our first meeting back after summer is always a social/games night, bit of rounders/football something to get everyone involved. Could do a bbq as well if you wanted

Do a quiz-float or sink!

Get 20 or so common objects-and people have to guess if they float or sink which the quiz master (or their assistant) confirms by dropping them in a bucket of water. Sounds a bit naff like that, but it is a bit of fun and a good icebreaker.

Does an apple float? what about an orange? A can of coke, what about a can of diet coke?

BBQ and games night is good ice breaker although the float or sink quiz sounds a good way of getting people involved and ice breaking. Good to see Young Farmers clubs getting back to meeting again. Unfortunately my former club has folded during the pandemic.

Hi my wife is restarting our local young farmers, and was just looking for ideas for games quizzes and things to get the ball rolling, has to be able to include 12 to 26 years old
I know YFC is officially for 12-26 year olds but a lot of clubs don’t actively encourage the younger end, to us oldies 14 years age difference ain’t a lot but that age range covers relatively naive school kids through the early and dare I say heavy drinking years and ending up for most at least being more mature individuals .
It’s a big ask in my opinion to expect the older members to look after those at the younger end of the spectrum although things have changed since my day, things like parental consent forms were never heard of back then.
I know several girls who have recently joined the local club at 16 having finished school, the opinion of their mothers being that their attentions needed to be on their school work up until then.

I'm guessing sticking a length of toilet paper between your arse cheeks, lighting it and downing a pint whilst all your mates sing "he's a pisspot..." would be out of the question?

Good on her (y)

I know you're not in Lincolnshire but I guess Rutland doesn't have it's own County Organiser?
Might be worth having a word with the county office at Riseholme to see if they could give your wife some support.....

Oh I don't know 🤔 10 year olds know way more nowadays than I did when I was 10.
Likewise it seems a lot of twenty-somethings are loathe to grow up 🙄
10-26 is a huge age range, but it always seemed to work for us. The oldest look to the youngest, making sure they get home safely, and are included in the meeting, etc, and as you grow up, you take on more responsibility and look to the young uns.
The meetings aren't anything to worry about from that perspective......it's when they start going to doos 😲 That's when you've to watch out 😁

To be fair she set it up just before covid happened and had 5 meets and they got 70 people and it was going all guns blazing, 2 things then happened
1. Covid
2. The pub which was the venue was ideal as it had a large function room around the back, so the older ones could go and get drinks the youngsters didn't but their parents generally went and sat in the bar and it was a really good evening for the parents aswell. But unfortunately the pub land lord died and the pub is shut, so a new venue has been found but its not ideal at the moment.

So it's start again and just wanted some fresh ideas, and yes they have been in communication with Riseholme which is great and also the person my wife is setting it up with is ex chair of the national yfc many moons ago A chap called Andrew Woodward.

Thanks for the pointers and help any more is welcome

I’ve got our local yfc coming tonight, tour of our glamping pods, wedding venue (farm diversification) then pizzas cooked in our pizza oven. We may offer the older ones some of our Perry! ( bit full on for a Monday).
it doesn’t really matter what you do, but getting the young ones together is a must.
