I rent tanks from Yara so I always ask my buying group if they are competitive with Omex, Frontier, Koch/Bunn etc. They always have been, so no problem.
Yara loosing a huge amount of business around here as they refused to give out a price until it was way too high. People moving to other liquid suppliers and even going solid after 50 years of being liquid.
I buy a bit of liquid, previously from Yara. Never again.

Push on, leaves are pretty tough at this time of year.
i’ve been spraying liquid AS for a day or two, rape, wheat and barley, no scorch so far.

Just out of interest, what strength was your AS?

I put 300L of home brewed 9.7%N straight AS on OSR 10 days ago, agronomist was on the phone saying theres some scorch apparent today...

@Oldmacdonald

@warksfarmer is spot on about scorch risks being much much lower this early in the season. Don’t worry about it until you get to the higher UV days of April/May, and when the crops are doing rapid growth and are much fleshier.

As for wind, if you keep the pressure up through your ESI nozzles (3 bar), then the wind doesn’t effect the jet of fertiliser, and you can crack on. I was on in a 25 mph wind the other day, and at 3 bar, the fert jet was still being blasted in neat streams down into the crop.

i make about an 8.5%, I put 450 on ORS and 400 on 2 fields of backward wheat and barley 2 weeks ago, result was no scorch at all.
The leaves were dry.
Ive since been through the ORS again yesterday with 450, this time there might be a little scorch, time will tell, but the crop is growing rapidly with a lot of new growth and by late next week the flower head maybe exposed.

I don't think yara had much available to sell so would of been crazy of them to give out a price for something they couldn't supply.

Omex have done this in the past. I don’t know about this year but when we were on liquid there was always talk of “advantageous” tankfills and other deals but they weren’t available to us. Currently urea in granular form looks the best option going forward. I assume no one in defra is considering phasing it out!🤔🤔

No more liquid fert for me. I've a set of chafer / Omex dribble bars available that have had no more than 50t through them that will be very much cheaper than new if anyone is interested.

Why the change?

So, the main reason is faff. You'd think with a much smaller farm and the big gear it would be a doddle. But I'm often fitting farming in around the children; shifts with the chickens; and while the accuracy is good, when your on your own and in a rush then mistakes happen. Today was classic. I somehow managed at an away farm to get maybe a litre of liquid N in my welly.

And when you add up the little annoyances, messy sprayer, putting the jets on etc and also find the cost is not small, it's just not anything like as convenient for me as popping the spinner on and doing a field or two.

I can see the benefits. I just find it faffy.

It's taken me a long time to use this last 30t, simply as I'd rather just buy more solid than faff about.

If I had a big farm; lots of yards away; and a sprayer driver on his own then fair enough. I can also see the benefits environmentally.

I can relate to most of the above, it took me 4 attempts to put N1 on an acreage similar to yours (I think) this year due to buggering about with other livestock work and wanting to finish on a night in time to see the little 1 before bed, which resulted in washing the sprayer off 4 times whereas when I was on bags the chances are I wouldn’t have bothered if going back on the next day, and if I had washed the spreader it is a lot quicker job than the sprayer!
I’m going to stick with the system though, I like the result and I’ve invested in the machinery to do it and the bund to store it

I tend to diesel and wax oil up before an application and then wash off once I have finished round of fert sometimes after 3/4 days if I don’t get on very well
