I voted no because I think it would collapse if it were voluntary but having said that we have been to meetings and events and more recently watched webinars they have put on so for the small amount we directly pay them I think we do ok

They take £5.40 for every head of cattle and 80p for every lamb/sheep.
That's costing me about £600 a year which has the perverse action of making me think that farm assurance is not so bad!
A voluntary levy simply doesn't work. Inevitably the biggest contributors stop paying and the 'service' declines as the costs don't decrease.
AHDB have provided me with some useful information / meetings but I would value it at less than £100 / year.
I'd save myself £500 given the chance.

£500 doesn’t buy much professional advice these days

If AHDB Dairy did nothing else but publish breeding values 3 times a year then the levy would still be good value.
As a new entrant into dairying I have found their meetings, farm walks , brochures, website and help with running my local grassland discussion group invaluable as always very helpful and none judgmental as would anyone else in a similar position. Any questions asked are always answered well and explained in appropriate detail.
As a beef farmer previously I never even knew they existed.

I agree, the discussion group was very useful.

Piers Badnell - before he went to LIC - assisted me in Honours project into pre-mowing as well.

They facilitated our discussion group.

Learnt more from fellow farmers than AHDB. All they wanted to do was waste money on "experts" to tell us what text books say.

Do very very little for organics.
