Is there a way that this thread could be copied into Agricultural matters where it might get more views? @Clive
They take £5.40 for every head of cattle and 80p for every lamb/sheep.
That's costing me about £600 a year which has the perverse action of making me think that farm assurance is not so bad!
A voluntary levy simply doesn't work. Inevitably the biggest contributors stop paying and the 'service' declines as the costs don't decrease.
AHDB have provided me with some useful information / meetings but I would value it at less than £100 / year.
I'd save myself £500 given the chance.
are farmers professional ?£500 doesn’t buy much professional advice these days
If you are a levy payer, shame on you for not bothering to find out.Someone tell me what they do
Having helped themselves to levy payers money you’d have thought they’d have the decency to tell them what they have done with their moneyIf you are a levy payer, shame on you for not bothering to find out.
They do, but some don't want to hear. At the very least there is this new-fangled thing called a website.Having helped themselves to levy payers money you’d have thought they’d have the decency to tell them what they have done with their money
As a new entrant into dairying I have found their meetings, farm walks , brochures, website and help with running my local grassland discussion group invaluable as always very helpful and none judgmental as would anyone else in a similar position. Any questions asked are always answered well and explained in appropriate detail. If AHDB Dairy did nothing else but publish breeding values 3 times a year then the levy would still be good value.

As a beef farmer previously I never even knew they existed.
But that's learning from other farmers not AHDB?I agree, the discussion group was very useful.
Piers Badnell - before he went to LIC - assisted me in Honours project into pre-mowing as well.
