Had a drive thru the other day , can’t say for sure but it looked kinda suspicious that the Big Mac seemed slightly smaller than usual , I do wonder in they are cutting ingredients just slightly the burgers just seemed less full … sounds odd I know.
It's shrinkflation everything is getting smaller ! Chocolate bars especially!

Sorry- I haven’t read the whole thread. I don’t see that McDonald’s is going to go all-plant anytime soon. You just have to look at the share prices of a couple of the big players in the synthetic animal products market to see that confidence in this type of stuff is not high:

Historically McDs has not offered much in the way of vegetarian options - not sure about in the UK but in the USA even the chips aren’t suitable for vegetarians!! McDs is also very family oriented; if Jemima has decided she’s vegan this week then the chain loses out in a whole family worth of sales.
On top of this, I’d hazard a guess that planty options are cheaper for McDs to source (due to their very cheap ingredients) than similar meat options, yet they will be presented as premium products so McDs is quids in.

It’s always the same; don’t listen to what you’re being told, think about what the money’s doing!

I had the first big mac I've had in 30 years last year. It was disgusting, the bun was as sweet as a cake, and it was half the size of the big macs we used to get when the kids were young. Never again!

Yup, and McD’s will be looking at Beyond Meat’s price chart and realising they can drive down the price of the slop burgers leaving more margin for themselves. I suspect that’s exactly why they’re advertising this at the moment, quick short-term gain before normal service is resumed.

Nothing for sale in there but starch and sugar dressed up as "fun". The meat pattie is the only thing in there that's anywhere near good for you.

The highly processed plant based sector is not consumer driven, so it won't last.

McD's & co are being bounced into providing these options which don't really sell. I strongly suspect they provide them knowing full well they don't and won't ever really sell but they perhaps do perform a function of PR deflection from some of the extremes of the vegan activists and worthy young un's.

@MX7 Any chance you could find that please? I’d love to see it. There were some articles a few months ago revealing how the lab slop industry is having huge problems for all sorts of reasons, they settled my nerves somewhat. I actually invested a small amount in the only UK listed slop pusher (Agronomics) earlier in the year "just in case". I’m happy to report that my investment is heading downhill and is looking more and more like a dead cat that prob won’t bounce. Share prices move for a reason. The clever money can show exactly what’s going on well before any news comes out.
Lab grown meat has already died a death, it needs far more energy to produce it than normal meat, and they can’t work out how to cut it back.

I'll be going of topic. I have only ever known there buns to be sweet, mind you I was only 4yrs old 30yrs ago. Is that not the American influence with the sweet bun.. Their fast food has to be some of the 'cleanest' around considering the burger is just beef with a pinch of salt and pepper.
Interesting video

I said to the wife after the 20 minute stuck in drive in que I’ll not be going back

Today I was given the task of acquiring a haggis in Ringwood in remembrance of Mrs Fred's Scottish ancestry. Lidls appeared to have had regular haggi (haggises?) but had sold out so I ventured into Waitrose and they had a big heap of "vegan haggi" of various sizes with reduced stickers, but only one giant real haggis left, so I had that and we can put the rest in the freezer. In both stores, I surveyed the meat-free sections but I was struck by how small and how undisturbed the shelf spaces were in both stores when considering all the hoo-haa about going vegan for January. It could be that they sell out fast and have to keep it restocked, but it didn't look that way.

I think everyone’s noticed the phenomenon. The supermarkets won’t stand for that for long.

Vegan haggis 🙄

The epitome of a niche product. What’s in it?

Neep and potatoes and then more neeps?

Went to McD yesterday as stomach thought my throat had been cut.
All the signs/menu boxes going through the drive in were for McVegan burgers.
Asked talking box if they had a meat burger menu for me to choose from....uh no.
Girl at window said they hardly sold any McVegan burgers.

I didn't know what to do as the haggis I bought said it "feeds 10" and as I walked across the car park fondling it, people were looking at me like I was some sort of prevert , but I figured it was better than having them think I was a vegan

But are the vegan options cheaper to produce ? the prices they sell for suggest otherwise, yes the raw ingredients are less costly, but there's then the industrial process required to turn them into something that resembles meat
