Winter beans tiller so surprising how they fill out

I was told the only type of winter bean crop to yield was one that looked too thin
Perhaps those with thin plant counts will follow this through to Harvest

To thick or to thin ,,,,,,,, bugger if I know !!!!!!!

I think ours from last year were at least as thick as yours, and they were drilled 12th of Oct so a fair bit more leggy going into winter.

Obviously last year winter beans grew too well for their own good through late spring and early summer, yet ours did OK. No records, but about 2t.

Keep on top with fungicides won't do any harm if they are a dense canopy?

Well to follow up, this is the same area where crows were having a go.
Leaving them alone now, but they have thinned them considerably.

Beens look well @Spud ,,,,, I would say mine are roughly the same although seed rate was 190 kg / ha ,,,,,,but cost a bit more to put in ,,,, plough , cultipress , weaving drill . ,,,,,, I've also gone to town on herbicides but every acre is spotlessly clean , don't mind spending some money on pre ems as long as I get value for money !!!!!!
Done a bit of a trial today tho ,,,,,, I've put a part dose of polysulphate on them to see if my inkling that they may need some sulphur is right

So what's a good yield for beans ,,,,, around here 2 ton / acre is regarded as a very good crop but have heard of the odd exceptional crop doing nicely over 2.5 t / acre ,,,,,,, tho I'm told that beans are a wishing crop !!!!!

Usually do about 2t here. Occasionally down to 1.5t, occasionally up to 2.3t, very occasionally get a disaster like the cold winter of 2010, or a near 3t bumper crop in 2015.

I thought ours were a bit thin going into winter (165kg/ha seed rate), but starting to grow and look better now.

I think if you can get a weed free crop then that pays.

Well here's my latest efforts.
From similar view point as previous pictures.
I think they'll be alright, mainly chickweed in this corner.
Have tried taking a picture in landscape mode, see if it uploads correctly

Will see if I can get a photo of ours tomorrow.

They look OK, but flowering at only a few inches tall due to drought I guess.

We got more seed on the headlands and they are noticeably taller. Competing for light??

Spread on and ploughed in.
