If it got banned I would be tempted to just stop farming I think ? to me it would be the final message that what we do is simply not wanted, that logic or the environment really doesnt matter, there are plenty of other more profitable things you can do with capital than farm so why flog a dead horse if people really are so daft as it seems they may possibly be ?

I really cant see how I can farm at anything like a decent return on my money while ploughing and i'm not doing it for a hobby thats for sure !

why be so pessimistic? one CS farm hasn't used Glyphosate now for >4 years and still is around.
there are solutions out there & not at the price of building OM or increasing soil life.

When I sold my plough it was exported to New Zealand, its just about far enough away from my farm now. God help us if ploughings the only way forward.

i'm not sure none glyphosate no till is possible if you want to produce an annual cash crop in the UK without ploughing ? I'm sure there are ways that make it possible with a crop every 18months - 2 years but unless economics change that simply would not stack up vs a plough and the returns from tillage farming are not enough to be bothered with IMO

Clive,
you are aware of the psycology rule, resulting in the most accidents? That you don't see what you don't expect.
So the solution can virtually sit on your foot toes & woalk with you but you will not see it as you are not expecting that it's there. Same with Organics which "bashed" me when I got involved in No Till >20 years ago. They said: now you are a Monsanto sales personal. Now we have the 1st organic farms which do No till in >50% of the years & have every year a cash crop to sell.
As long as I don't expect a solution for my challenge I will not look for it & develop it.
York-Th.
p.s. by the way the 1st Brasilien "electric Glyphosate" is operational in germany in an organic, to be precise a biodynamic farm for several years already.

You really cant see the wood for the trees.
Banning roundup will seriously cut production , and prices will rise in uk to reflect becoming a net importer.
win win win

ah but we would have to ban any imports of food products from anywhere else in the world that didnt ban it , cant see that happening with all this talk of trade deals post brexit but can envisage a shoot ourselves in the foot ban, uk or europe only then it would be lose lose lose

It wouldn't stop production though would it - we'd still be producing. Everyone wins then don't they? Or how about we ban all fungicides? Maybe ban lime then? - that would cut production too in a lot of areas. Why not ban tractors? They're clear pollutants
And what is the public arguement to ban these items?
Roundup is the only one they want to ban and are building the case for it.
Personally i think its a good thing. I still wince when i see a bright yellow rounduped field when it should be green.
