This arrived from the Lim society today, they’re deregistering these animals as they’re sired by some dodgy Jacot straws. The list includes Mereside Lorenzo who’s been used a lot in AI.

That email doesn’t say they are ‘deregistering’ anything, just that calves born in the last month can’t be upgraded from birth notified until it’s all sorted out (whatever the issue is).

It’s surely a sensible approach, pending confirmation of what’s going on with this semen import?
As an outside observer, would a lot of fallout have been avoided if they had suspended registrations when Jaegerbomb’s ‘discrepancies’/BB heritage first came to light, until they’d unraveled the mess at least?

It says that the listed animals are being withdrawn from the herd book. Pretty damn close to being deregistered?

I don't see the point in it if I'm honest.

Why deregister an animal but allow it's progeny to continue as a full pedigree?
It's oxymoronic

Also, what difference does the method of semen importation make to an animals pedigree status?
The pedigree status of a bull who's semen was delivered by Cogent is the same as that imported from France in the boot of a car.

There were rumours in foot and mouth year of bulls that had been bought in France but couldn't be moved over so went to Ireland, had semen taken off and then pop over on the ferry and bring some back

Mereside lorenzo was only born 7 years ago.

If I was a betting person would guess its something to do with date of birth fiddling maybe.
Actually it does say batch of semen....

I can't wait until our Lorenzo embryos are born in march. Embryos registered in 2019 with society, some all ready born are pedigree but ones that are due are not now pedigree 🙄
Something smells of a society trade off with defra to me🤭

The thing I don't understand is that the bull is still pedigree and pure bred or am I wrong?

Therefore his progeny are also pure and eligible for pedigree. They aren't punishing the breeder by doing this, they're punishing people who have used him.

If they were serious they should make it so he can no long register any cattle under his name as pedigree, kick him from the society and defra should give him a massive fine and possibly disallow him from bps.

Yeah, apparently definitely pedigree, think a d.n.a test result got circulated while back when it last rumbled. Presume the society are probably treading carefully because surely someone there noticed a great bull like jacot, whos well known, isn't available in our country, starts getting progeny registered. So to me they've either let him do it knowingly or there registration process has failed.
We definitely feel like we are getting punished. Got two young breeding bulls that were going to the sales, are they devalued now? Also got lots of heifers by him also. I'd of thought defra would of deregisted the lot or non at all🤔, rather than sticking a pin in the calendar and choosing a date.
The final small financial kick in the nuts is, these embryo calves once born are going to need a dna test, before there unavailable for registration and become normal stores. Got a nice cow from the cloughhead herd in calf to him also .

I don’t know what money you are valuing your bulls at but some of this wouldn’t make as much difference to a commercial buyer

Yes your right, its just ifs, buts and maybes at the moment, just hoping they'll be allowed into the sales and hopefully they'll tell us one way or other before spending hours pratting about halter training

What’s it cost you to enter a bull in a society sale? They tell me it’s near 1k?

Its not mega money for some marts but my neighbour who goes Carlisle has quoted similar figures. Think, its the Thursday, Friday and maybe Saturday night hotels that drive the 1k, rules state you have to have 2 or more of you, so unless you fancy sharing a bed with your buddy/cowman then folk are getting 2 rooms at say 60/100 pounds a night.
Its a shame about Lorenzo, up until this point, he's been a great bull for us to use. Easy calved, plenty of power, and pretty well natured calves.Got 2 embryos left in storage and 13 a.i straws left.
