ifor williams floor pop rivets

Thanks for all your comments, I’ve discovered that the heads are pozi3, a Philips screwdriver was no good, perhaps the heat I applied yesterday has worked or I chose to start on a particular corroded screw. I tried again this afternoon and most came out ok
I would need 4 sheets of phenolic if I were to use “ buffalo board” so it would cost more than my budget....I have to economise, I’m not a farmer
I’m 3 score + 10 so if I get 10 years out of the treated marine ply that will do me

Morning everyone. Found this post whilst scrolling google searches for my Ifor floor!

I have a 12 foot flat bed that needs reboarding. Not something I have had the pleasure of doing before so I'm a little unsure. Can anyone tell me what these rivets/bolts/screw things are please? They are all rounded inside so I'm guessing it'll be a grinder job to get them off. Whats best as a replacement screw.

The trailer has been offered up as a float for the school gala so I need to make sure everything is good and proper.

On newer trailers, they use a rivnut into the frame then use a countersunk flathead screw. Best going to them I think for that part. Rivnut kits can be bought online. Great to have kicking around in the workshop. Board wise, as previously mentioned. Go with proper phenolic board. It's the best. That's the reason manufacturers use it. Non slip. Hard wearing. Also, seal the board with flexible silicone to the frame top and bottom after round the edges. Stops moisture rotting them so fast. Don't use mastic and it for some reason now days cracks and doesn't flext very well.

I’ve read the threads with interest, I have a 1999 Ifor Williams LM trailer, generally in good condition but the loadbed is rotten and needs replacement
Is there a method to remove the fasteners?, I’ve tried heat but the Philips heads just strip, I’ve noticed some have sheared off, is it worth trying to unscrew them or should I just chisel them off?
Toolstation sells TechFast Torx head screws at a reasonable price so the old ones are not worth reusing
How thick is the original floor?, mine is so rotten and swollen it’s difficult to tell, approximately 25mm?
I have a stock of 9mm marine ply, I’m hoping to be able to use 2x or even 3x thicknesses on top of each other, treating each layer with preservative
Any advice would be appreciated View attachment 907371
Don't use marine ply get resin board anybody who sells or services trailers should be able to supply you. Will long outlast marine ply its brilliant stuff use it for anything outdoors much better than the junk ply that's being sold nowadays around the same price as marine plywood anyway

1/4" pop rivets are available but you need a lazy tong gun pull them up since it takes a lot of muscle. Bodybuilders have dome head, ring shank rivets that get pulled through then an ally collar swaged on.
