Bought a new trailer and with it being an 18fter, i find its a pain in the arse in the dark with the standard Ifor lights behind the pickup (on 7 pin plug still).

if i were to fit some 48w (guessing a 3.5A draw each) LED worklight style generic chinese lights onto the fog light circuit whats the risk i can overload the output on the car ? im thinking of somehow fitting a waterproof toggle switch on the rear of the trailer so i can just flick them off if i ever needed the fog lights.

Fitted some of them elcheapo ebay led units to a friends trailer not that long ago & all into the Fog Light circuit along with a new led fog light
but also installed a changeover switch so its either one or the other. lad well impressed so far.

I put led marker stalks on all four corners the backs lower than the front. Going from 14ft to 18 doesn’t seem that much but it doesn’t half swing more as a tri axle

I fitted one of these little cheap chinese switches, teed off the fog light circuit in the black box under my Ifor.
Switch the fog lights on and press the button, works well.
There are lots of this type of remote switches on Ebay

The new 13pin is far superior to the old 7 pin, id consider retrofitting it if you have a fairly new tow vehicle and plan on keeping it. The looms can be had for around £100 plus vat. Everything about the 13pin is so much better than the old 7pin units.

I have retrofitted my trailer with led units, complete with reversing lights, its great.

You could even have a 12v aux supply to power any additional lights, or 12v charging circuit to charge a battery on a tipping trailer for example.

So slightly off topic but relevant to the thread, which way round should the 13 pin plug be wired? A quick Google brings up mirrored options for wiring diagrams, (see screenshot below) which obviously would be the case if looking at the socket and the plug. However many websites are ambiguous as to which they are referring to, and I'm presuming they are showing as viewed from the rear of the trailer plug as when you are wiring. I had to rewire my truck as the old one broke off, but now suspect I picked a wrong diagram and have it the wrong way round?
Guessing the top 2 are correct in the screenshot and the right hand indicator should be on the left.
