IH 574/Kontak hydraulic valve block

Having trouble with the loader valve block on the 574. I took it apart for unspecified reasons, and now the cables won’t “push” the valves in. Tension on the cables is fine and I can set them up so they pull ok and activate the ram but they won’t work the other way. The lever is pushing the cable out ok but doesn’t seem to be moving the valve stem? Pictures attached for explanation

It looks like one of those systems where the detents are in the lever mechanism.
There is no way a cable set up like that can push the spool in.
Is the spool not just sprung loaded fully one way with no detents 🤔
You set the lever to a central neutral postion, detected, you then adjust the cable so the spool is in neutral.
Then if you push the lever forward the spool is pulled in its sprung direction, you pull back the other way against the spring for lift ?
I'm by no means certain but looks like that sort of set up.

You’re exactly right that it can’t push the spool in, but if I take the cable off like in the picture, to activate the spool I can either push the valve in against the spring or pull it out and it works each way and it springs back to a middle position. I think I’m missing something very obvious but can’t work it out

Should there be a spring on the cable end below the cap? This would push the valve in when the tension is removed from the cable?

This would make sense yes and make it all work but I’ve taken them both apart and no spring, it also worked before I took them apart.

Is there not some sort of safety device on the other end of the spool that trips if the cable snaps to put it into neutral , if the cap on the other end has a stud screwed into it in the centre that is what it’s for , after you reassemble it and adjust the cable you will need to remove the cap from the other end of the spool and push the spring down( compress it ) and it should click in so it puts tension on the spring

This was exactly the problem, I’ve done this and now works. Thank you very much, you’ve saved me a great deal of time and aggravation!
