IH 785XL Bosch pump

I'm looking for a bit more grunt from my 785. Nothing too over the top, just enough so it hangs on a bit better with a load on the back. I've heard that you can alter the fuel screw on the pump for more power, but looking around the internet I can only find information for the Bosch VE pumps, whereas mine is a VA. Our 4230 has a VE pump and I can see the fuel screw quite easily on it but on my 785 I can't work out where it is. Is it internal or behind a plate or does it need to be taken off and sent to a specialist?

I'm in no way advocating tweeking the pump but I can tell you that the max fuel screw is the screw the stop lever sits against in the run position (forward). This screw should have a lead seal on it. If not its already been opened up.

I'll just add that you should make sure that the stop lever is actually on its stop when the button in the cab is pushed in as a poorly adjusted stop cable can prevent this and hence reduce the power.

Well you were right, the stopper lever was slightly off, only by 4mm or so but enough to make a noticeable difference. Also given it a small turn on the adjuster just for good luck and it seems to be a lot better now. Not that I can test it much in this horrendous weather. Anyway thanks for the help.

Glad you got sorted. I'd have thought 4mm would make a vast amount of difference. I've known 1mm make the difference between one gear and the next one up ploughing with a 1056.
