I'm getting a bit afraid now ............

First light on Saturday we were trying to locate 40 plus cattle that had, I won't say escaped, as "let out" would be correct. We did get them altogether again after they visited the housing estate - didn't like that so came out again, were on their way to the village playground but we managed to divert them to a neighbour's field. And 6 had gone about 1 mile away, heaven knows how they got there as they would have had to get the other side of a stream and railway line. Our Cousins out lamping again, undid wire and string and didn't bother to do them up again and left the gates swinging. They also went in all the other fields too, as we could see the tyre tracks, but they were stubble with no stock. Reported to Police. Bought a set of fancy padlocks and put them on the gates yesterday.

Awoke this morning to find that all the paddlocks had been smashed and bent to be unusable. These were field gates and to a yard with buildings. So son has been putting trees and logs in all the gateways. But I feel worried in case this gets worse, we don't want a war - they could do so much damage, cutting water pipes, damaging the machinery, fire, flood, the list goes on. We have informed the Police again, but it is very distressing to hear that some farmers simply shoot the hares to discourage the visits. Our hare population is just recovering nicely from being down a few years ago.

getting to that situation here too. Phone call the other morning to say cows were out. Field gate was wide open, been in another stubble field last night, gate left open. But what can the police actually do about it unless they catch them red handed which is easier said than done, and even then they will have a list of excuses a mile long and won't get prosecuted. Police do seem to be trying around here, but actually catching them is nigh on impossible

The army would be ideal for this sort of thing, am sure they'd love to be set up for a night with night vision/thermal and give the scrotes a right good kicking. It's getting to the point where someone will get seriously hurt.
If they're not nicking during broad daylight they're murdering wildlife all night.
They have been round next door sat and sunday night. Direct drilling doesnt help the situation as loads of stubbles

Heard a rumour that a livestock farmer is in trouble because his cattle got tangled up with a car in the night after they got onto the road.

Gate was open, string undone, tyre tracks found. Farmer in trouble because his gate “should have been locked, not just tied with string”.
that figures

But wasn't the gate locked with a chain and lock last time he went through it but when he went back it had all vanished

We’ve never had much trouble touch wood , but the last couple of weeks there’s been folks driving over most farms locally , over drilled crops and stubble turnips etc. Locked our gates now as they’d been left open for muck spreading etc.
Early hours Monday morning they got stuck in a rut on neighbours field and abandoned ship .

They look good ,you could make your own if you had time , or just drop a concrete cube in gateways with a telehandler , or maybe a heavy steel pole set in concrete ?

Sad state of affairs as the poachers dont seem to give a f**k , for some its time to look at how industrial estates protect their compounds and do the same , heavy steel gates that cant be rammed with a 4x4 .
