At the moment you can upload practically any image to the forum and it is automatically resized down. It will take a while to upload massive photos if you haven't already resized them but that is better than being unable to post photos at all because you are unable to resize them or faffing around with external image hosting sites :)

The servers currently resizes images to 2560 x 1920 pixels if they are larger than that (and keeps them in proportion.

This is great and we end up with big photos you can zoom in on. But it does mean they take a long time to download in some threads (and especially the mobile apps or on slow broadband connections).

We have just tweaked the size to 1920 x 1440 which is still massive but will hopefully speed up page loads on slow connections a bit.

We could decrease the output size even further - down to say 1280 x 960 or even 640 x 480. This would speed up page loads further (especially on the apps), but we would loose the ability to zoom in on big photos.

We'll leave it as it is for now unless there is a shout to further reduce it because lots of people find the pictures annoying slow to download.
