do any body have any pictures of the front timing cover off and all gears in place, its a perkins phaser tier 2 engine and need to remove the injector pump some say you need to undo the big nut on the end of the pump some say there are four bolts you undo and remove the pump once you have it set on number one tdc and pump locked up, so say you need a 3 leg drawer to remover the gear, just wanted to know what we are getting our selfs into before we start the job

what application?

i did a phaser tier 2 in an mf 6465,

just marked timing gears i could see with paint when water pump was off and got injection pump to tdc, put pin (old drill bit) in it 4 bolts and out it comes, fairly straightforward job to be honest.

There both on a mf7480 but don't undo the big nut, just the four little ones after pinning at tdc. Do have pics but idle between crank, cam and fuel pump just been shoved on randomly previously so all marks 12 teeth out. Rear timing case off for water leak, can't say I like the design.

Drop no 1 valve on to piston and set TDC accurately is what I do. Got fed up with hassles after with timing slightly out, close enough so they run but not right, either run too hot on exhaust or harder to start and lack a little power.

so do not seem to bad of job, hoping we can do it with rad and fan cowling in place but there are power steering lines going to be a pain to work round, its a mcormick mc115 that just runs ruff on tick over with engine light on all the time, althou we used it the other day for 2 hrs and ran fine on tick over and light wasnt on

As he says tweak timing before you put water pump back on, mine runs fine and starts ok but I can tell it’s slightly out as the lower solenoid runs over some times when you stop tractor( this adjust time while running so it’s over compensating) to adjust it I’m gonna have to take water pump off again…

Have you tried running it on some diesel additive first before you pull the pump off? Might save you all the hassle of removing the pump if you haven't. Best to remove one of the fuel filters and empty out the diesel and fill it up with the stuff & give it a good run, has sometimes worked for me in the paat

Was doing both pump and timing case on this one. Valve spring release tool is home made from crap laying around, bit of rebar, some bolts and washers welded together and a random pry bar out of tool box 😂

I drop the valve on to piston, set a DTI gauge on the valve, turn crank pulley one way till needle moves and mark the pulley to engine, then turn it the other way so needle moves and mark pulley/engine again. TDC is then half way between the 2 Mark's you made.
If that makes sense! Easier when I'm doing it than trying to type it😂

Do you have a double thread going on here? Is this engine in the McCormick?

If so I think getting wires crossed as i dont think you have a phaser engine, phaser are 1000series, but you mentioned electric lift pump in other thread? Which would make it an 1100series.

Timing on that one is quite different and you will need to strip the whole timing case cover off to pin the crank and cam shaft on TDC. Also the gear is straight on to the tapered pump shaft but again no key way and there stupidly tight to get off!

do you know what engine codes mean for this type

I'm not a tractor man, it looks mechanical pump and as someone else said electric or fly by wire throttle.

You also didnt listen to me cause i'm sure i said if you was replacing the electric pump to get a genuine perkins one not an aftermarket copy :X3:

You need to get some one/dealer out to it that can look at the throttle/electric side cause your just stabbing in the dark at the minute and thats an expensive way to work.
