As above what is the procedure for doing so, so as to comply with all regulations etc that go with importing seed for trial/ experimental purposes?
Edit.
Would it vary from which country one was importing from?
Thank you

Start by reading the above - it’s not straight forward but obviously possible subject to passing Phyto etc. the breeders are always importing seeds from South America and New Zealand where they do their multiplication in the southern hemisphere summer, as well as the EU frequently.
there is another layer of complexity if the seeds you want to import come pre-treated with unapproved chemicals. There is an agreement in place for importing pretreated seeds from the EU for the next few years but not sure about from other continents.

Wondering if shorter growing seasons “ spring barley/ OSR varieties from Canada, Scandinavian countries may perform ok in Uk.

Most OSR grown in Canada is spring OSR I believe?
Regarding Spring Barley varieties - Scandinavian varieties aren’t that, if any, different from ours - in fact a lot of successful UK varieties are bred in Denmark. Spring barley travels between countries and continents better than any other cereal - I think I’m right in saying RGT Planet was at one point grown in every cereal growing continent globally and was the single biggest variety across the globe including some pretty dry / short season countries .

I seem to remember from my university days that some of the rape grown in Scandinavian countries was turnip rape (brassica rapa) and not OSR (brassica napus) but it was a long time ago.
