Onto one of our deferred paddocks, we didn't graze it out well last time (35 days ago) so we'll go back to it now, and they can go hard on it.

Put the cows+calves in with the big kid's mob and gave them .37 ha, not sure how long for

Looks some good stuff there Pete
spose we shouldn't call it grass as the aim is to have much more than that, I used "stuff" but I spose "pasture" would do.
Can get away with having anything growing just say "tis all good pasture"

They've got the right to roam.
Whilst that's very much a Scottish law, trouble is they think it applies down here too if you're a resident of the village.
One advantage of the dairy farm layout is they do tend to stick to cow tracks and the dogs soon learn what the hot wire on either side is for :ROFLMAO:.
one disadvantage of the cow tracks - it has tempted them to take a drive and 'see' where it goes. Again, they soon learn what the fencing on either side can do to their cars. ooops!

As so many have already, I'll say hi all. I have read through the whole thread and I've found it the most riveting read! I can't wait to get started, two common themes that are often mentioned as potential blockers are family and time, all I can say is, it's work in progress!
Welcome BB. All I can say is, if you've managed to read the whole thread then you've clearly cracked the time blocker (just so long as you understand the wholes within wholes within wholes principal.) Now tell us the time secret 🤣
As for obstacles - remember, it is the path that is the obstacle. Travel the path, and you'll tackle the obstacle.

Hi! Cheers for putting in the 'hard yards', I probably should go for a time-travel and shoot back for a look myself.....

On the plus side.... I think the divergence in ag (between the hippies and the kill-'em-alls) has never really been so apparent as it is at this point in time.

You know, people have heard of some of this stuff we discuss. That maybe helps with family?

But it also depends what they have as a 'picture', as has been discussed on various threads on here regarding public image etc.

The joy of 'regenerative' is that it's great for non-conformists and those who allow themselves to dream..... to discuss the problems and the weaknesses of the stuff we have been trying.... it can be really revealing too.
When we talk about goals it's surprising how "personal" our picture and goals can be, the best time to think about putting those goals down on a sheet of paper is today!
It's ultimately very difficult to make progress if you don't have a bit of clarity about where you are actually wanting to be (y)

Why do you think I ramble on, so??

It's a means-test...

Yes, Welcome to where the hippies hang out.......

Ask away, there are no silly questions. We're all the blind leading the blind in here :D

I'm not sure that it's such a good thing that there is so much divergence between 'us' and 'them', as it makes it harder for 'them' to jump ship. I'm constantly and pleasantly surprised by the number of people who come to Groundswell, who get really excited about all the 'hippy' stuff. I genuinely think that so much of this is right up most farmer's lanes (I don't think we do streets), if they wrote down their pictures and goals, and the reason it fires them up is that they didn't realise that they could become proper farmers, farming the land and not raping it, because until very recently this message was really hard to hear.

there you go again with the long winded words and phrases.,the well used and understood 'up most farmers street wouldve been just fine', (y)
it wouldn't then need an explanation .:sneaky:

I have a friend who once scolded me in public that he was sorry for me - that I didn't believe in production in the conventional sense. This week I've hooked him up with a biochar production course (y)

Small steps.

Actually after 900 pages, I think I'm well on the way to understanding the principle of it, it's the application of the principle that I need to get my head around! Time is precious, I to have a day job and confess most of the time spent reading was on my breaks. I have lots of plans spinning around in my head, one of the 1st things I need to address is water. I know what I'm going to do, it involves solar pumps, Ibc's and a good bit of gravity, oh and lots of alkathene pipe!

I'm assuming too, that with a name like "Bowland" bob, you also have plenty of water falling from the sky 😉

yes, indeed a lot of this stuff may help with family time. I meant more like the old man and a shift from the conventional. During lock down I introduced him to you tube and Greg Judy and so hopefully I've planted a seed. 👍
