Any breed thats working hard to feed her calf in her working clothes. How many cows with calves pulling them down are fit to kill?! Alot of hfrs sold with calves at foot in the spring are miles away from being fit to kill.
I think I’d cry at the thought of killing heifers that have been rearing! (Unless they are d!cks of course) 😉😁

I havent seen anybody thats been disappointed with the price they have received for cows and calves this year, they have had £100's more than they have been worth. I would get them into market.
I usually watch them come in the ring and think as they stand on the day the cow wouldnt make £900 in the fat and calves worth £300 in the calf auction so i will bid £1500-1600 , and the bloody things make 2k+. If im only buying things to breakeven i might as well leave the money in the bank!
Christ man I had 13 year old cows making 1200 fat knackers .

Just because giving milk don't mean they get pulled down.
Good beef cows will keep condition.
This in shed this week for pd test.

All living on grass alone? You pick the worse one to photo?!🤣 Nice things, where abouts in the country are you. Would that cow make £1600 in the culls with you as she stands?
Yeah just grass.
Only been in for tests.
She should do 1600, last few have.
Were in South Yorkshire.

I posted on another thread, when I took over farm many moons ago, any cows that were poor when fetching in we culled and kept heifers off cows that were still fit.
End up breeding genetics that can do well on just grass, even at end of summer with calf milking on them.

Do you have to pull many?
Not really.
Cow's are big so ok with good calf popping out.
But we use piedmontese on the heifers for easy first calf and blonde on the cows.
Blondes seem to be slimmer when pop out, then grow after.

But we also start calfing nov
Cows have a calf sucking on them till Sept so calf inside does not grow to big and Cow's are fit and strong from up and down hill sides.
Think calfing in spring, cows are unfit from just stood about all winter.
