The Tory manifesto and their intention to hold an EU ref was well publicised before the Scottish ref. One may argue that it is not uncommon for governments to renege on promises but in this case pressure from UKIP meant that they had no choice but to go through with it.

Yes, indeed, but their intention was that the vote would be to remain.Of course being as the EU ref was publicised before the Scottish ref it was quite clear there was a risk that a leave EU vote was possible.
The point being that to accuse the UK Government of lying is ill founded as everything was done openly

Remaining in the EU was a big part of the last Scottish referendum. Scots where emphatically told by the Tory government that it was far safer to remain as part of the UK if it want to remain in the EU. Twenty months later that proved to be a very big lie the Scots won't forget.
I do not recall your statement being made by Cameron in order to dissuade the Scots from leaving. What in fact was pointed out was the fact that the EU would not guarantee to accept them and they would be left without a currency as they would not be able to retain the British pound. I think it is you who is embroidering the truth.

It is very easy to confuse promises with opinions. Cameron was in no position to offer ongoing EU membership . The same goes for all the other so called promises. How much relevence you attach to the statements and opinions made depends on your gullibility.

It was ever thus!

Was there not the suggestion the Spanish would/could be awkard as it would embolden seperatist sentiment in some of their regions?
So it was in France and italy but the EU just like in ireland has put everybody under a peace. At the least for now these separatists do not make troubles. This is why many believe the NI will get some kind of conflict without the EU as many agreements will change, the UK is trying to keep the things as they are now but we all know once you are out things wont work the same way anymore. They say NI and ireland still can trade with the brexit, but it is not true, because the UK might use the NI border to sell his goodies to avoid the taxes so the EU might close the border. Regards.

Again you are confusing opinions with facts.Have the other members voted yet on Scottish membership? If not how can one man begin to give assurances? I see that he withdrew his statement or denied that he made it.
Your right, nothing is certain with the EU till it's put in motion ( as Laim Fox has found out to his everlasting embarrassment) But it looks highly lightly that it would be waved through with the minimum of fuss. After all there is still plenty of fish, oil and whisky to lubricate the process.

Of course the benefit being the rest of the UK doesn't have to bail out Scottish banks and doesn't have to suffer Socialist governments .. oh oops you don't either do you ?

The only problem would be that scotland doesnt meet the financial criteria its debt to gdp is even bigger than greeces and it would also have to join the euro which agin it cant because its debt is too high, and there are at least two countries who are far further down the line to joining, of course knowing the EU they would ignore all their rules so they can expand their club

Nothing more true but without a major net contributor they will be more cautious in future perhaps.
