Can`t call it the "Indian variant" anymore - that encourages "racism and xenophobia" you know....
Kent variant is now "Alpha"
South African variant is "Beta"
Brazil variant is "Gamma"
Indian variant is now "Delta"

The Greek alphabet is fairly short so steady as we go.......................
Well let’s hope we get to the “Zulu” variant quickly so we can get this thing beaten. Maybe some of Dons bleach may help? 😂

The so called "Nepal variant" doesn`t have sufficient difference from Delta to allow it to be uniquely named.
It has a difference in a spike protein unseen in Delta.
There was a similar tiny difference in the "Yorkshire variant" commonly known as EEBYECCKK. :ROFLMAO:

This is what viruses do, tiny changes looking for an "in" to spread amongst their hosts, if they choose wrong they die off... if they choose right then paint crosses on your doors and get into grave digging.

My optimism is taking a kicking over June 21st.

Interesting thread about the spread of a variant last year.

As we identify new variants, the critical question is to what degree viral changes are influencing transmission & cases, & how much might be changes in restrictions, behaviour, introductions & more.

EU1 reminds us how important it is not to underestimate the latter!
