Infiltration Test

Put in PP for a grain store 120x60 back in Jan (as near an "active" airfield, determination date was Friday just gone, they have come back and said I have to do an infiltration test, I am aware what it is but find it a bit odd. Is this normal to be asked for such?
Site is Cotswold Brash so very free draining, was just going to construct a soakaway to take the rainwater, non of the fields around the site have ditches or drains because it is so free draining.

Yes normally it’s a part of using soak aways, the local drainage board (even though we are not in it) always get the planning lot to ask for it despite them doing nothing to maintain our water courses, they are a pain in the @ss

It’s one of the joys of having a small airfield nearby that negates the PD rules

Even with geological and soil maps, there's no way of being sure that the infiltration rate will be suitable until it's actually tested. UK geology is so varied and you can get random patches of superficial deposits etc that will prevent them from working.

What is a shame is that BRE 365 is always mandated. While that is *the* test to do, a much easier/cheaper/quicker method is a 'falling head test'... they should spec that for areas that should be fine but need checking, rather than going straight to BRE 365.
