Ingles Farms Steiger

I'm trying to register the Steiger puma sold in the late Peter Ingle's farm sale , it was bought knowing as stated there was no paperwork and under the circumstances I don't want to be hassling the family but does anyone down there have any idea when he might have bought it in? I only remember seeing pictures of it baling in the last 2-3 years.

Sorry, I should add no paperwork means you have to start with hmrc to prove duty was paid before dvla will talk about it. The keyring has a company in Winnepeg on it but that's hardly going to convince the revenue!

Sorry, but I don’t know anything about it I’m afraid.

I always liked to drive past Mr Ingles yard though. Always something interesting to look at, especially on a Tuesday, market day in Moreton in Marsh, so traffic was down to a crawl!

I had an old girlfriend live in MiM; I’m fairly sure that puma was there 2008ish. I recall her dad talking about him a lot; did he have an untimely end?

Apologies, he was Tim not Peter, no idea where I dreamt that up from. Yes, it was a dispersal sale.
I know he bought in at least one other late style Steiger(1000 series) but it was a good bit bigger, Cougar maybe.

That brings back memories of driving to theRoyal Show and also my college placement. Worked near Nuneaton and went that way to get home. Always had a look at the tractors as i went past.

That was a long trek to Nuneaton from your area , what placement were you on ? arable farm ?

Going on experience of a car from America. If you have proof that you purchased it in the
UK, from a previous UK owner ( receipt from auctioneers ) a new logbook etc should made available to you. If no revenue was paid upon the arrival of the tractor in the UK, HMRC should then be contacting the previous owner of it.
If the tractor is over 40 years old ( but this may not be possible if you want to use it commercially rather than a hobby machine ) filling paperwork in to class it as an historic vehicle, takes away a lot of the aggravation.

You may have san issue with registering it for the road, this is making sure that it meets type approval. From memory quite a few large old John Deeres came in but could never be registered due to having no separate parking brake, just a gear box lock. I have no knowledge of Steigers

I did wonder about cert. of conformity but she has handbrake, turn indicators and was designed for road use so hoping those boxes are ticked.
I don't think there's any way of importing through the docks in recent times without paying duty but at the moment I can't even give hmrc an indication where to look. There was a load with Versatile 555 and bigger Steiger 1000 series via Southampton but that's not this one.

Again, classing it as historic does away with a lot of that. But MF brought approximately 50 of the 1155 and 1135’s over in the 70’s, and none of these had hand brakes fitted.

Good morning,
I have been here in Moreton for 28 years and Tim was a good friend.
That Steiger Puma is a bloody good tractor and one of Tim’s favourites.
Yes, it was used on a Case (NH) big square baler and various other big square balers Tim had.

He had that tractor at Moreton for at least the past 20 years. Almost certainly, he imported it from the USA himself.
Here is the number of one of the guys who used to drive it who can help you. His name is John 07788 653042.

What I can’t understand is that Tim used it on the road, so why hasn’t it got a reg number now?
Hopefully John can fill you in.

I am unaware of bthe full details about the type approval, certainly my old 865 did not have the correct lighting for the UK. Yellow headlights ( destined for France perhaps) and orange sidelights. Think i swapped the headlights but we never moved her at night, being 15 feet wide with no table!
