Yup, Got a welded up crack about 8" long there.I take it that was a fairly common occurrence then.

Yip - i have a b250 block cracked in exactly the same place. If your 275 block has been welded and its not leaking - then i'd just overhaul it - especially if its just a working tractor and not meant as a barn queen. I cant see that torqueing the head would open up the crack.

It was mentioned as a possibility in an earlier thread by a few fellows, that's all. The extra details and difficulties I've learned in this thread make rebuilding mine look more attractive. I have experience with rope seals in auto engines and it's a job I like to avoid as much as possible.

On a side note, I was talking with a lad over here that I recently bought some parts from for my tractor and asked if he might know where there was a used pump laying around that I might be able to scrounge parts from. He has a complete used pump that was running a couple years ago for $300. So rather than try to rebuild this one myself, I might be able to help out the lad that currently owns the B250. Obviously, he didn't do his homework before he bought, but the sellers also didn't tell him how hard it was going to be to find parts, especially the injector pump either.

If its putting antifreeze in the sump, you need to find out where its coming from, ?
As if its cracked between the bores at the bottom in the block, it will be very hard to stop,
If its a rotten liner that's letting antifreeze through then it might be ok,
There is a guy on ebay close to me, with a B275 block for sale, its £350 I think, but the carriage will be a lot to you i would think

Type in this Ebay number on Ebay UK, 233875146812

Any idea what it might weigh? This could be worthwhile, depending on weight. IIRC my starter was about 70 pounds to get here.

The more I think about it the more I'm inclined to help this guy out instead. There's no doubt he got a bum deal. The used pump wold put him on the road relatively cheaply, with a starter and glow plugs. And save me a ton of extra work.

I think it would be about £500 to ship this - its big and heavy - plus you have the paperwork and fees - plus the cost of buying it in the first place. Better to look closer to home imho.

Probably, but you never know for sure. When I bought my starter on your side, it was $350 delivered and took 7 days, over Christmas mind you, to get here. The best I could get local to me was $1200 to rebuild mine. There's no duty on farm machinery and parts coming to Canada from England, so that helps a lot.
There is a couple breaker yards in Ontario, so I'll check with them to see.
