This spring we invited growers to ‘scan the can’ and win a place on the BASF Innovation Tour, a once in a lifetime trip to New Zealand. The lucky winners have been picked and their wait is nearly over.

The winners will visit top growers and leading agribusinesses on both the North and South Islands to talk about topics such as vertical integration in businesses, sustainable farming, and meeting demands of external markets.

The tour will also take in a prominent dairy unit and sheep station, as you can’t go to New Zealand without talking about milk or lamb.

Further stops include a visit to no-till drill manufacturer Cross Slot, one of New Zealand’s best known plant breeding and research companies - Barenbrug Agriseeds, as well as a visit to the Foundation for Arable Research cereals open day.

Our winners will be documenting their journey throughout the tour, sharing their learnings and insights. We’ll be posting images, videos, interviews and blogs across our Twitter, Instagram and Real Results website and here so keep checking back to make sure you follow up on their progress in New Zealand.

If you want to know more about the winners, you can take a look at their profiles on the Real Results website:

Yesterday me, 15 fab farmers, and 4 of the BASF crew, visited Waiheke Island. A 40-minute ferry ride from Auckland. Waiheke is the second-largest island in the gulf, after Great Barrier Island, and is the most populated island in the gulf, with 9,250 permanent residents; another estimated 3,400 have second or holiday homes on the island. Waiheke has become known as New Zealand's "island of wine," home to a dedicated group of winegrowers who have successfully matched the maritime climate and ancient soil structures to the selection of classical grape varieties to produce red and white wines with distinctive varietal character.

New Zealand vs UK wheat yields.

Next week we’ll be in the South Island, going to visit Mike Solari, Craig Whiteside and a BASF Real Results NZ farmer ‘Bocka’ and we’re off to the NZ Cereals-esque event the FAR Open Day on 5th Dec.

The group head to Balle Brothers, a family business growing carrots, onions, potatoes and brassicas. They also have their own dairy herd in New Zealand, and are involved in a share farming business with 30,000 head of dairy cattle in Chile.

In this day two highlight film, Colin faces pronunciation challenges, Robin introduces New Zealand to Lee and Perrins sauce, Tim fills his pockets with soil and Ollie learns more about the Balle Brothers live anaerobic digesters.

How did he manage to smuggle the Lea & Perrins sauce in? I always thought that it was a serious offense to take food stuffs into NZ.
If customs had found it then I'd imagine they would have difficulty categorizing it.
mmm 'class A'?? :scratchhead:

Fab, I’ll let the guys know. We’re now in a Southland off to see some arable farmers. It’s been lovely weather (mixed with some torrential downpours). Currently driving through fog, fields of Lucerne (increasingly being planted in dry land areas), dairy, sheep, irrigated wheat... Wrap up warm!
