I suffer from this from time to time, think it's more an over active mind at night keeps thinking over problems and stuff...
One thing I have found is I need a radio on to Listen to, if your awake laying in silence your mind spins round even move [emoji53]
Normally find its best to listen to a talk show like radio 5 or LBC at night, if there is a good discussion helps to your mind of your own problems [emoji45]

Anything with Prof Brian Cox sends me to sleep within about 5 mins, even if I try to be interested in astrophysics I can't stay awake lol!

Don't know if this helps anyone: I used to take melatonin tablets to help sleep (no trouble nodding off but easily woken during the night then can't go back). Worked well, made a big difference to state of mind in the morning. However the UK then banned it, or made it prescription-only, so we didn't bother anymore. (Could get it from abroad online but wife doesn't allow that sort of thing).

Seems to be recent discovery, but saw somewhere that the best natural source is pistachios - melatonin levels in them are off the scale. Only need to eat 15-20 a couple of hours before bedtime to get the same benefit as a tablet. Sleeping Ok again. :)
Son and his kids have tried it and report same success.

I have had periods of insomnia through out my life, sometimes for obvious reasons, which is understandable, however, those times when you are stress free, tired but unable to drop off were a real pain. However, someone told me that dehydration is a major cause of insomnia and I now fully agree with this theory, I believe that keeping hydrated is my key to good night's sleep.

Phone on youtube audiobook or lecture and some ear phones. Dim the screen as far as you can and put on blue light filter. Turn phone over and lie their with ear phones in. Boooof. Done.
Try “Sleep music “ on YouTube on phones lowest volume as that can really help as well as very calming
