Need to rig up a power supply between two sheds, approximately 50m apart , 3phase 10mm câble required, it HAS to go in the air , no other option, I will install a steel wire rope between the buildings to Hang it from, what cable should I use and would you just cable tie it to the wire rope. This is a permanente installation, any advice gratefully accepted, cheers

Have got some 6mm stainless wire rope ready for the job and have secured substantial plates to both buildings ready to hang from, could possibly wrap the cable round the wire but would be difficult, I was worried able the cable ties going brittle too, thought there might be a proper solution that the pros use, what type of cable should be used? Cheers

An electrician mate of mine gave me a pack of stainless cable ties a while back. He says they're used more and more nowadays on heat pump/solar installations that have a lot of cabling outdoors.

50m is a fair stretch,,you would have to get it twice as high in the middle as the tallest piece of machinery which is as much as mains cables on field poles, then remember wind sway on the anchor points , the other thing is cable size ,,is that 10mm per wire if so,that's a big heavy cable

Ok then so should I cable tie the cable tight, or leave loose for expansion/contraction? Worried about chafing if left loose? Would armoured cable be the best to use or is there a better preference for overhead? Cheers

I cable tied one a few years back and thought I’ll leave them slack, they all ended up at one end:banghead:then they all started to go brittle:banghead:
You can get control cable that’s got a wound sheath that would do but personally I’d use armoured.

I’ve found the clips I had on another overhead once.

I can’t remember where we got ours from but this is the proper thing for the job, the strap bit is leather or nylon. We have some leather ones that have been up over 35yrs.
I googled “leather cantenary wire hangers to find this.
