Insulin dependent diabetics here?

@codyw I realise it’s a blood reading but seems different to the uk (or my) readings
You need to get libre meter. I am not diabetic but look after my friend who is 81.
Type 2??? But uses insulin. The various meters talking or otherwise throw up some weird results. No rhyme nor reason. Certainly don't work above 25c.
Having a battle to get it on nhs England, what's new, but am convinced both on here and talking to a user its the way to go. Up to the minute updates on your sugars either with the meter or your phone. At the moment nhs are sending a nurse to test my friend to administer insulin twice a day. Eventualy somebody with the brain power of a sparrow will realise it's cheaper to give him a libre meter. However while I am a fan of the principle of the nhs I unfortunately don't think there are many with brains bigger than a sparrow especially among the more than 1 managers per bed.
Like Green who did a programme in Manchester to cut the waiting list from 6 months to 3 weeks I could shove a rocket up their butts save millions and improve it beyond all recognition and I don't regard myself as brain of Britain

was talking over xmas to my niece(bad type 1), she made the point that the libre in her case would save the NHS money.
she had to buy some strips privately as she had run out. it cost her £25 for 50 , and she use around 75 a week, so for the £50 for the libre that covers her for 2 week the NHS would save around £25 as she would use one less box of strips

My wife is on the libre through the nhs in Scotland although she had to pester them for it. It’s made a massive difference to her control. Only issue issue is they give her enough for one every 2 weeks and they are not always 100%. Had a batch that wouldn’t stick well and one that stopped working. The makers sent a replacement but she had to go a few days with the old style finger pricking which was like a step backwards for her control.

Had what should have 9 weeks of sensors last just over 5 weeks. Aaaargg didn’t realize had used them all up so an hour on the phone tomorrow should have them replaced. Until then finger sticks. Did wake up last night and was 3.7 (conveniently converted just for you) which I was glad I was sensitive enough to realize w/o the alarm.

Anyone had laser treatment to their retinas? Had retinopathy which had some laser and then switched to avastin injections to treat rather than 'burn the sh1t' out of the problem. Big bucks but at least I can see I guess.
I don't think I've passed my visual field eye test for the dvla this time round despite having no laser since the last 'pass'. :(

Anyone know about this stuff?

Might be worth ringing your screening clinic and asking them?

I'm surprised there isn't a kind of implant you put under the skin to measure blood glucose that just bluetooth's a device on the outside?

Yes, there's all kind of gadgets about........ but I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to management to be honest. Trying to improve though.

I did pass my eye test even though I had to have 5 goes at it. My visual field would appear to be quite good averaged out considering the amount of treatment I've had (y)

I think the management is key really, although I know there is a raft of stuff they can do these days.

They should give those monitors out like confetti.

Am I the only one that tries to quick get something done before going to the house for some sugar. Was quick trying to move some panels with the loader and drove through a gateway with door open. Broke the curved glass. Spendy. Bad enough low but that made me crabbier. Dexcom on arm this session (10 days).

No happens to me regularly. My biggest problem is trying to find a lucozade bottle that is already open then I’m not opening another one!! I must have 20 lucozade bottles all round home and viecles but still look for one that is open whilst my sugar drops!! I am trying to get out of the habit!

Usually have half a pack of lucozade tabs in my pocket but you can imagine how yucky they can get.

denial is the biggest hurdle....... once you've cracked that life is easier...... or is it just me?

My wife has given up on lucazade and started on apple and orange fruit juice. The 200ml cartons of concentrated stuff. There is enough sugar in one of them for her.

I have those as well but wrap them well with clingfilm to keep them dry for longer.

The problem then is trying to open them when very low:unsure:
