Acres - @Nigel Wellings VERY happy with the service we have had from them and the prices, no problem on a few claims we have had

Moved from NFU 7years ago because of their support of RT to F&M who were cheaper than NFU (half the price in fact !! so mutual hade royalty been taking the pee out of my family's loyalty). F&M were good, no issues re claims etc

I'm finding cars best insured with no farm insurers - @Kate_PaceWard is good, I have some with them

Does the NFU Mutual Insurance Society have anything to do with Red Tractor? :scratchhead:

Personally, I moved my insurance several years ago in order to save a considerable amount of money (I’m still an NFU member currently though).

I’d suggest using a broker, rather than going to any one insurance company. I use Caleb Roberts, who I would happily recommend, but I’m not sure whether they cover that far down.

there is a strong (6 ? million pa IIRTC) financial link between mutual and NFU ........ they are very much connected in that respect

I moved from NFU when I took over the farm a decade ago, to County Insurance (https://www.county-insurance.co.uk/) then moved to F&M (https://www.fandmgroup.co.uk/) and am currently back at County as they were offering great rates a couple of years ago. Must have saved close to £10k since I left the NFU. Made one claim while with County the first time, they paid up no problem. Pays to keep them on their toes, after a couple of years with one broker go through the 'Beauty Contest' process, get all the usual suspects to quote, and make sure they all know there's others quoting. Keeps them honest.

F & M are brokers aren't they tough?

Yes. In theory all brokers should be “equal” but….

Some have special working relationships with certain companies, and may get better discount and/or commission from one than another. They may not be entirely independent on choice, but you won’t know the reason for that.

I have no experience of Acres but @Nigel Wellings has been very transparent on here before when I mentioned the typical broker fee of ~30% of premium paid.

The hard work of insurance I guess is always when companies first take you on and gather all the info. Renewal is much less work, so in theory more profitable.

A bit of a quandary this one.
We resigned from NFU membership when ACCS all started. But stayed with NFU Mutual Insurance Society for most of our Insurances and Personal Pensions.

Why? because they are a Mutual and are trusted. They also have some excellent financial experts to give advice.
We get a pretty reasonable loyalty bonus and whenever we check, their rates they are good.

I’m annoyed that they send a lot of money annually to NFU.
But they have always come up with the best rates.

My neighbour switched from his broker to NFU Mutual because their quote was half, what his broker wanted!
Annoying though, the Mutual told him to get that rate, he had to join NFU as a member, which is Bollox.

Had that NFU Mutual town office have been the same town as the one we use, I’d have told them exactly what I thought, in no uncertain term!

Changed from the broker we'd been with for donkey's years (they'd started to take us for granted  ) to Acres last year.

Their man quoted on the same figures in our original schedule and it was a considerable saving. He handled everything, over the phone, without fuss.

Not had a claim, so can't comment on that but if they're as efficient in that department as they have been so far, I can't see it would be a problem.

If we keep nudging then maybe they will start to notice we don't approve of RT. This is the way of the world when someone doesn't respect your point of view - they may respect a loss of trading.

By the way County have always been pretty competitive for me. And decent service
