So-o-o . Is the consensus of opinion that we will have a boom or a bust shortly ? I ask because I still haven't put my savings into a "Stocks and Shares " ISA . Which is what I've been considering doing since I took £20.00 from the N.S . and I savings at .015 % ( I think ) and put it in a Barclays savings a/c until I decided . I get the interest NET ! pence - literally .
At 91, I think I would just keep it as cash

Talking to bank manager yesterday, looking like we could see a rate rise to around 0.25 in December then another rise early next year to 0.5 so nothing drastic but definitely going to see a rise.

My dad used to tell me when he changed his combine in the 1970's he twice got more than he paid for them as inflation was so high. I actually think the Gov are happy with inflation and trying to inflate away their debt
Of course they are. They don’t believe there is a downside.

Rishi Sunak is possibly the most dangerous member of government since Callaghan

Actually I think I would go with Gold Coins. Kugerands or golden eagles. Just make sure someone knows where they are and also knows not to tell the government. As far as they are aware you died broke.
Sovereigns or gold Brittanias have no capital gains tax on them when you sell something about them being British currency means they are exempt.
Silver Brittanias are exempt as well but you have to pay vat on them when you buy them.

All gold coins are essentially capital gains exempt. Pawn shops are not required to take any details.
Depends what you want to do with the money... I had some that I never intended on selling but had to go towards a house deposit last year so had to do it officially. The premium you pay for getting sovereigns or Britannia's over other coins or bars is peanuts if you ever did need to use them for something official.

Yes , I think I might just do that . Just as an aside , I had a silver Victorian 5 shilling piece . I had it gold plated and mounted to go as a drop from a genuine gold Albert and pocket watch . My old man thought it was great fun , especially when a chap in a pub offered him £2,00 for it . He reckoned it was a golden five guinea piece !
