Interesting facts about the Ukraine

Years ago on a strawberry farm we had an amazing Ukrainian picker, she was unstoppable. Relentless. The other pickers called her John Deere. She saved all her money, living on potatoes and Tesco valu burgers.
When she went home she bought a 25 ha farm.

Perhaps productivity has a beauty all of its own.

I googled it last night, and found it had some of the most fertile land on the earth,
It grew about 30 million tonnes of grain in 2018, yet the average yield across the country was 4.6 tonnes per hectare, did make me wonder why,,, as that's less than 2 tonnes an acre
Will This be due to poor farmers not being able to buy fertiliser due to being a poor nation money wise,
Also see foreigners can not buy land at all, only Ukraine nationals can,
Of and some of there women are gorgeous 😍
2t? the soil must be better here

During the 2nd world war German trains returning from the Ukraine were back loaded with black earth soil.

A major reason for the low yields was the farming system that they inherited from the Soviet Union. Farm workers were paid the same whether they worked or they didn't. So mainly, they didn't. They were forced to farm following a rule book issued by the government which was ridiculous (but a bit like DEFRA is trying to foist on UK farms). Over there I often saw a 13 1/2 ton Kirovets K700 4WD tractor pulling a chain harrow and they used to over cultivate so they pounded the rich soil to dust.

A very successful American agronomist friend used to comment that Ukrainian farmers did everything they could to destroy soil moisture and structure. He managed a "trial plot" of about 250 acres on a former collective farm - as the foreigner, the farm manager gave him the worst land on the farm, but by choosing varieties that suited the climate and carrying out operations at the correct time according to the crop needs not the calendar, in his first year, the American grew maize and sunflower that yielded 3x the national average yield.
