International 895 Short Engine needed.

Found out some more today. Last time this tractor had a problem with the sump filling up with water (about a year ago), it was a copper sleeve problem too. On that occasion, it literally filled the sump up with coolant overnight! I can't understand why it would do so again within a year, albeit at a much slower rate of filling the sump.
I would have thought it unusual for any engine to suffer this fault once, let alone twice.
Any suggestions?

And as it was an old problem would it not be the first thing checked?

The symptoms you describe when turning the hay last summer would suggest loose injectors?
Or injectors replaced and not re-tightened when the sheaths settled in?
Worth checking the injectors a bit more often, now that we all know the problem.

Regardless I'd be punching the air if it was me, couple of grand saved without breaking a sweat.

Blue tractors around that have allowed the contents of the cooling system into the sump several times

There's a limited number of places where water can get into the sump.
Cylinder head gasket is not a common failure on these engines.
If the hissing sound is only on one cylinder it's more than likely just an injector not seating correctly.
As for the water leak, drop the sump off & pressure test the cooling system.
You should can look up into the engine & see where the water is dripping from.

Thanks. Apparently it was pressure tested last time after the sleeves were replaced and all seemed fine. Could it be that an injector came lose again since this was done as @Mursal suggests, in which case they need checking after a bedding in period?

Sorry I was under a bit of work pressure, when replied previously ............

Consider doing the easy stuff first:
1. Worth putting a spanner on the injector nuts on the suspect cylinder, see if they're loose? Hopefully they'll take a tightening, if so job done. Just keep an eye for lock up when stopped, so hand crank before hitting the starter until confident its sealed. Keep in mind they might be tight and still leaking due to damage to the sleeve.
2. Next would be to pull the injector out and see if the sleeve is loose/leaking coolant.
3. If it is tight to get out, thread a tap into it and pull out (drain coolant first) if its hard to get out it will need replacing anyway (due to damaging it). If it comes out easy, you probably have the problem.
4. Still can't find the leak consider pulling the sump off, especially if the coolant is dribbling out the drain hole. But the lock up sounds very like a top end coolant leak pointing towards the sleeves.
