I’ve ordered the 12 volt type, and yes, will either bypass pepper pot or use it to house a warning lamp.

According to Wikipedia (yeah I know) JR was Newcastle, I’ve sent email to Newcastle council and we’ll see where that leads us

hello tonym
I am not sure if I agree with you to bypass resistor as when the resistor glows red in the peppar pot you know it is time to start engine.... one more thing which I am not sure but someone will tell me is that the glowplugs are special fit only for IH

The original IH glow plugs are are low voltage and connected in series with the pepper pot to work off 12v hence the pepper pot glows with the plugs.
The modified system works off 12v in parrallel and each plug works off 12v and is earthed through its body hence you no longer need or want the resistance of the pepper pot or the earth as it would be a dead short.
As regards knowing when to start 4 - 5 seconds of heat and it will fire up whatever the weather.
Another advantage is if one plug or the resistor fails on the original system you have no heaters at all whereas with the 12v system if 1 plug fails you still have 3 more working and can still start it.
I can assure you that these plugs are the correct thread and the correct reach for the IH engine and will cause no damage at all.
I converted mine 4years ago when the pepper pot failed. The cost of the new plugs was only about 1/2 the cost of a genuine IH pepper pot and the ebay ones are c##p.
It is the best thing I have done it makes starting much better and also saves the battery. In fact I have a smaller battery which leaves room for my sandwich box when I am ploughing which is another bonus!

Thanks Tonym

That was my understanding of the 12v glowplug conversion.

This is the kit I ordered

Whereas if I’d joined this forum earlier I could have ordered these “ Febi BilStein 17215” £7.76 each

I’m sure I could make up wires/busbar to suit

Neither did I !!!

Ps what are vary touch hydraulics??
all B275 models had round axle,
standard hydraulics were the same as the B250, but with the advent of the new B414, they were fitted with the all new British draft control hydraulics, they were called the vari touch system, and were offered as a factory fit option on the B275 from the early 60s,
the key start came in mid 60s and did away with the lever start,
What he said ^ 414 had Vary touch (draft control) as an option to the mechanical depth control. Looks like you've got knobs off a 276/434 unless that was a later addition to the 275

I’ve been making my own plugs. Knock the centre insert out of the old plugs and tap them to M12x1.25 and just fit old car plugs, I’ve collected a range of Ford, Citreon, Peugeot etc plugs now. Even worn inline pumps 250 and 275s start instantly with them!!

Thanks for the responses guys,

Can anyone help with my seat?

This is the underside as you can see the centre is rotted out, it has a ring riveted to it which I presume housed some element of suspension, can anyone supply photos of a good seat so I know how to reconstruct it?

This is the top side
