They shouldn't be a pig to start at all. My 250 and 275 with inline pump starts lovely now. Do you know about the 12v replacement heater plugs that you can buy or just make some using car heater plugs.

Most probably your injector pump will need an overhaul aswell, the elements wear and loose injection pressure

I've put new heater plugs on and it still needs heat for the first 5-10 seconds. Does yours?

Par for the course I think. One little item which does have a pronounced effect on the starting, is the condition of the small end bushes, even the slightest wear here drops the piston down the bore, so lowering the compression.

fit Febi Bilstein 17215 plugs

wire them in parallel, by pass the pepper pot, heat for 8/10 seconds and away it will go
This is the most reliable way of heating your nasher
Done it many time the plugs last so much longer than the original types.
Also check tappets good battery and clean starter out

Does it have a poping sound on tickover like a valvy sound but different.

I have a B275 engine in my rape swather, it started out life as a pea viner I believe but I would say that the engine is a good starter, turn key, wait for pepper pot to glow red and then off she goes. I can leave it a year (or longer!) put a fresh battery on and she'll start first turn.

Indeed it does have a popping sound when it first fires into life. Also it is hunting a little on tickover. And it is also hunting when it isn't given any welly on the throttle, but in my opinion this is perfectly normal for an inline pump.

Yes hunting is characteristics wouldnt worry to much of that,
The popping can either be valves or the combustion chamber the inserts crack and can also allow the chamber to turn and drop.
Had one a few weeks ago let go fell down onto piston made mess and rammed it back into head it was blocking the injector nozzle.
It ran nice on quater throttle and above
But an absolute pig to start
Was cheaper to get a new head than repair old one put a full engine kit in to starts like new now

One of mine is useless at holding back down hill, i,e the governor just does not want to do it's thing. Have checked the diaphragm, venturi pipes, inlet manifold gasket, the air filter and flexible hose. Everything seem in order but it will run away down hill. Any one any suggestions for that one bar the swan vestas!!!!

Throttle butterfly worn, and not sealing? Excess play in linkage?

How tight a fit should the butterfly be? Both seem the same plus similar to another manifold I have that came from somewhere. Stupid question, but should I close the throttle when going down hill? Not so easy on PTO work. 275 was pretty useless on the conventional baler going down!!!

Butterfly should be a very good fit, with no wear in the bearings. I have been told that general engine wear can cause this, worn valve seats can lower manifold depression, for example, as the cylinder charge is blown back into the manifold. Tight valve clearances on the inlets, and wide on the exhausts can also cause manifold pressurisation, this shows up by some very strange noises being heard from the air inlet area.

Will have to investigate this further. I did some work on the engine few years ago, cylinder hone, new rings, new shells, checked and lapped the valves in and the injector pump had 4 new elements. It starts much better now and pulls much better. Just before the mini refurb it could be parked on the yard in gear and would slowly roll forward with the engine turning over!!! Starting it when warm was a tow or bump start affair aswell!!! It's what happens when you buy then out of a hedge for £100 for parts and then decide it would be a shame tto scrap it.....,,

You could put a plough on, and do Sarn match. I too, have fallen into the too good to scrap trap! I have a Fisher Humphries trailer plough that I bought to save it from the scrap man! Never get to use it, the world style kit is so much easier to transport for one thing.

I'm no ploughman by a long way but I do have a yellow Bamford/KV three furrow that I've adapted down to two!! Just need a few miles on the beach to shine it up!!! Oh, and maybe a vari touch top cover for the tractor!!!
