Hi - is the IH serial number stamped anywhere on the older IH tractors , 434, 444 etc - other than the aluminium plate rivetted on the side of the gearbox?

Is there a way to match engine numbers to serial numbers as well - or is there a date stamp somewhere on the engine block?

Any IH experts out there?

Thanks

Hi Pete - just to be clear are you saying that this mark on the tombstone is only on the 74 series tractors and not on the earlier ones built on the B250 original design?
I have no idea TBH. On the Doncaster machines the number is stamped on the casting above the front axle. On my 895 it is on a horizontal surface.

The BD154 4 cylinder Glow Plug Engine had a serial no. of the engine stamped on the block from memory of my Manitou days, so all of that series engine will have an identification mark - John Sambrook from Dudley IH Specialist - used to work out of Chris Millers Yard - Miller Plants Sales Ltd - believe he sold it on to another supplier of IH parts - but Chris Miller will always give relevant contact numbers if you give him a ring.

As far as I know the serial number is only on the plate riveted to side of gearbox. Engine number is on side of block under hyd pump. Hope that helps u. Ian Dennison from Lancaster is the man who would know for sure tho. Advertises in classic tractor with parts for Bradford built tractors.
