Hello all,

My name is Daniel and I've been floating around on these forums for quite a while, tapping into a lot of good knowledge and experience.

We have a company called Willand Group Ltd. that aims to provide a wide range of services to the agricultural sector, but the core of our business is in housing systems for livestock and farm management (of our systems as well as conventional).

I will be asking a few questions here in the next few weeks, and I look forward to sharing more about our company with you all in the near future.

Thank you, Holwellcourt Farm, I do plan to get involved on this site, I have found it very interesting and quite funny tbh. I’m not 100% what you meen about upsetting the apple art tho? And I’m a northerner (Doncaster) (y)
In the first days of Farm Marketplace there were issues with the vested interests in the agrochemical industry not wanting prices made public. I think you are the first to offer to do so for fertilisers.(y)

Would that be funny ha,ha, or funny peculiar....

Anyway, apologies, that the most witty guy who is 'normally' on this thread, welcoming committee greeting new victims members ...is actually on 'gardening leave' atm.

I'm sure he's lurking, reading things to keep up

I, for one, am missing his unique "input" :(

I see what your saying but can’t understand why...A company puts a price on a product and that’s it. If someone wants the product they buy it, it’s so simple. Only prices we will be making public is our prices. (y)

Hello Rob y Forum members. I moved from California (engineer) to the wilds of Patagonia, Argentina. Retired and am trying to full fill my dream of having a working ranch / farm though very late in life. Totally new to me but learning fast. Have Massey 680 tractor on 88 Hector's river front.
I need a little (lot) of advice from those who know. I just had 9 Hector's of land cleared but trees are coming back faster than I can remove them. I'm told a disc plow after several applications will stop the growth. True? Also what type of plow to get? I see X pattern disc arrangements and two non parallel bars supporting disc. Is there an advantage of one or the other? Needs to be heavy to cut new growth trees near 2 meters tall but thin. Any recommendations / suggestions greatly appreciated.

Welcome aboard. Sorry I can't help with the tree issue but I'm sure someone will.

Hello: holwellcourtfarm: Thank you for the reply. Having just joined I'm trying to figure out how this works. I could not find a way to enter my location when I brought up the members site "users map" and no mention in the "help" that I could find. It would be great if there was an example of how to get started. I have a pressing question in need of an answer about disc ploughs. About how the different configurations work from someone with experience and not a manufacturer selling their product. Could you suggest where to direct my question in more detail for an answer? Everything I have seen is about points or trophys! (I'm not interested in a popularity contest). I did see forums but nothing specific about specific implements.

Welcome aboard, I somehow misplaced this thread for a while :oops:

@Bruce Johnson - we use discs quite a bit down here for breaking in new ground, often some of the marginal land is too rocky for a.conventional plough; generally speaking the weight of them largely governs how well they bite in, as much as anything.
Those offset discs are usually slightly simpler and have the advantage of not biting in if you turn one way, whereas the tandem/crosscut style seem to fare slightly better on a slope.
Main thing is that you don't repeat a pass in the exact same direction or you end up with a great 'ridge and furrow' effect to level out!
The scalloped discs especially on the front gang will probably be an advantage for the uses you describe.
:)
Enough blab from me, welcome along (y)

You'll find quite a few folk on here a bit too "mainstream" for you but there are plenty who'll engage with you, @Blaithin and @Kiwi Pete for starters.

If you're feeling brave then try "off topic" as well
