Hi everyone . Sam from Gloucestershire originally camarthenshire . Just about to break the employment status as a shepherd and go it alone . Hope to get some useful advice on here if i work out how to use it first
Welcome, Sam (y) you will find heaps of advice on here, from folk in the know, new entrants through to those with heaps of experience in the sheep industry. Exciting going out on your own, we did 2 years ago, from a fairly broad background in all things agricutural.
Best thing ever, managing your own way

Think there’s more people down there by you than up here by me. :p

I’m where people on here come for holidays but nobody actually lives
I can kinda see why from your picture thread
I would love to see it for myself, my mate/mentor/old boss was passing through Canada on his OE for over 3 years, loved it, stole a local and married her as an excuse to return on an annual basis :)
She's from Manitoba.

I am likely the most southern TFF'er, we farm on the southeast corner of the South Island of NZ (y)
Just a small flock of sheep, as we run about 130 store cattle and 450 store lambs over the summer, and then about the same number of hoggs/winter stores while the cattle are housed.
My wife and I both work off-farm, a bit of this and a bit of that
I can blabber on for pages, everyone is sick of me but far too nice to say so :love:

If I had to send a radio signal it would be shorter to send it straight over the ice cap!
Farm finance is always a tricky one for a start, I dabbled in shares a wee bit which helped us get into livestock, not a pathway I'd recommend  but my 1100 Apple shares are looking pretty good (y)
Most all of "our" livestock are actually financed and owned by a livestock company here, PGG Wrightson.

UK and NZ farmers differ greatly in the respect of where we place our capital, eh @holwellcourtfarm :censored: which is sometimes brought up by the kiwis and aussies on the forum
