Introduce Yourself

Hello all, I thought it polite to introduce myself as I just joined the forum. At the risk of being booed offstage I am not a farmer; I am a metal detectorist (with a difference). I am 51, live with my partner in Brampton, 1 child, 2 cats, 1 allotment. Hope you are all keeping well and staying safe.

Welcome to TFF The Farming Forum. Sounds like you are already aware that detectorist have a bad press amongst the UK farming communities.

If you include the first part of your post code and the fact that you hold detecting insurance you may come across a farmer in your area who would be prepared to come to some agreement for you to detect on his land and you could even offer to pull some ragwort in exchange for permission.

Stay safe, stay well, and good luck with finding permission.

You might wish to insert “Metal Detcting” into the search facility,in the top right hand corner of the opening page of TFF, tick titles only. You will see a lot of feedback on posts, in answer to other people who have been seeking metal detecting permission from TFF members.

Hello All,

New member here. Hopefully I won't be publicly stoned for admitting I am an accountant...

Family history of farming with a real passion for the rural sector. Look forward to getting involved in the forum.
Now you've done it! You'll be inundated with requests for free accountancy advice.

Welcome to the forum though. (y)

I quite agree, whether what any new or for that matter old members say about themselves is true or not we will never know, unless of course we know them personally ;)
I guess that is the problem of social media, are great screen for people to hide behind.

Hello everyone.
Just thought I did introduce myself. My name is Leroy, and I work as a field trialist for a contract research organisation in agrosciences. I do not have a farming background but 3-4 years ago after finishing uni, I got my first job assisting to carry out research trials at ADAS and that is when I developed an interest in agriculture and knew that I needed to learn more. I have been a fan of this platform for some time now and have been popping in when I have time to learn stuff and of course enjoy the banter that goes on. I have recently decided to join the platform in order to grow my farming network and learn more about agriculture from the farmers on here :).

Welcome in at last. Another loiterer turned member... :ROFLMAO:

I'm used to people ignoring me once I introduce myself as an accountant, requests to talk will be a nice change of pace!

Thank you for the welcome.

Could be worse sport; you could have introduced your self as a police officer, a general practitioner, or God forbid a member of parliament!

Welcome to the best farming forum on t'internet!
