For new member to introduce themselves, where your from, what you do etc. (If you want to of course!).

Hello!

I am here having worked with a farmer for almost five years, I am now looking for a second site for my my small, eco friendly business. I am looking to speak to any farmer who is thinking about diversifying and would consider renting 3 - 15 acres of grassed land to me. I can pay up to £100 per acre. I hope this is the right place :)

Welcome aboard.

I suspect you'll need to give a bit more info on what you do and an idea where you are if you are to get any take up though.

Hello! I am a brand new farmer in my mid-life, own 24 acres in North Carolina - and am looking to start a mixed rotational farm. I have some contacts with NC State's small farm unit and a farmer who leased the land I bought and farmed on it for the past four years, but I have a lot to learn, I have to learn everything. I am very keen and eager and just need to be pointed in the right direction.

This July I will be heading to a small croft in Scotland that holds a week intensive workshop to learn about mixed rotational farming but of course I need loads more than that. Just found this forum this morning, the day before I leave the UK (been visiting for a few months while my farmhouse is being built back home!) and I am so happy to have found it.

I am a *big* fan of James Rebanks and while I have always dreamed of having a farm, reading English Pastoral probably lit the fire to bring my will into action.

I look forward to this for the second half of my life and being able to leave something to my children.

Hello all.

I grew up planning to follow in my grandfathers footsteps and one day be a dairy farmer, but life happened and i found myself with a child at just 16 years old, farming (and all other plans) promptly went out the window and was forgotten about. Twelve years later the interest and desire to farm has come flooding back and thus i find myself here.

Yes there's plenty of useful info here (and teeny tiny a bit of nonsense :sneaky: lol. )

Theres the dairy (:ROFLMAO:) and other specialist parts for loads of stuff, if you have time to read it.

but cant beat real life and youre sound still young enough to get into the industry in someway and they are quite 'interesting' times .
Good luck with whatever (y)

I have far too much time available at the moment! Just not much of it the right sort of hours for farm work.

Might have a look into doing some stuff on a voluntary basis just to build up skills (and kill some time!) would this site be a good place for offering myself up as free labour?

Yes it might be as good a place as any, as would looking around your locality for a farmer needing some help in return for a bit of 'tutoring' i guess.

Hi, I’m farming organic beef and sheep in Dorset. Actually farming a bit less recently (my dad and partner still full-time) as I took another job off the farm. We’re on ~95ha in west Dorset. About 15ha is SSSI fen and meadow, the rest low-in put PP. it’s not a great money-spinner but my partner and I planning a move to mob grazing to make it more productive as well as some other income streams (trying to avoid the dreaded air bnb/shepherds hut route). Have been lurking on the forums for ages, esp interested in ELMs/defra/policy threads. Thought it was about time I joined up properly. 🙃

If you are interested in "mob grazing" and ready for a real mind opening exercise then try Kiwi Pete's thread here: https://thefarmingforum.co.uk/index...stic-grazing-for-starters.224870/post-5041946

Be warned; There's some incredible knowledge in there but it IS currently on page 1246!

Hi i am richard from rotherham i have always been intrested in farming and was fit and healthy untill two years ago when i ended up having 3 spine ops.
Have been classd as disabled since and told iwont be able to work again bcause im un employable because there is chances of having lots of time of.
Been stuck in the house is sending me up the wall so if their is any farmers who ever need a hand i carnt really lift but i can fix most things weld and drive most things i am happy to come and help for free.
Would be nice to have something to do and have a conversation with people out side the house.
And dont worry im not disabled as in a liability i just use a walking stick to get round so as i say if anybody needs a hand im willing and dont need anything in return a bit of banter and been out doing something usefull is all ineed.

Welcome Richard. I'm sure there are farmers who could do with your skills...
