Hi all I'm Jim from Conisbrough in South Yorkshire.
I work at a plumbers merchant but have always had an interest in farming and grew up around farms in the wentworth area when I was younger.
Joined to basically learn and also to see if over time anyone would be kind enough to let me help with a little pest control.

Hello everyone, thought I'd finally introduce myself now I've joined the farming community full time.

After nearly 15 years in engineering (some of which I spent designing a local brand of yellow materials handler..) I've returned to the family farm, hopefully with some experience but definitely to live the dream! So far so good.

Rob from Derbyshire.
So Dieci are your fault then :ROFLMAO:

Welcome aboard.

Hi Rob and welcome. Guess you've been pretty well working next door on your yellow machines.
Good luck back at home with the dream. You know where we are now if you need anything.
We're the ones with a red machine :ROFLMAO:

Hi Folks, apologies for the long message....

First and the foremost I am not a farmer (I wish I could), I am software developer who has worked for big retail corporations such as Tesco and have witness firsthand how much money they make just for moving things around, almost 80% in certain cases.

I am planning to build a product using which small or medium scale farmers and farm owners can meet and interact with their potential customers directly without having go through a supplier or middleman and also aid them with other services such as inventory management, logistics and accounting. The mission is to reduce the middleman cost to less than 1% of the retail price of the produce.

In order to do this, I want to meet and interact with farmers to find out the pain points they face while trying market their produce. Please help out.

Thanks
Giridhar

Before I could work on the product, I need to interact with my target audience, i.e., the farmers. I need to understand the pain points involved in marketing your produce, and the steps you guys take to avoid paying the middleman.
Think you need to set out your thoughts and initial questions in a thread of your own in a the general Agriculture section. Maybe even set a 'survey monkey' type questionnaire for folks to fill in . That would give you a good start to understanding your target audience.

nb.make sure it's a good questionnaire, don't just rush one out and think that'll do. It's got to hold people's attention and make them think it will have a useful outcome.

Hi,

I signed up a while back bit just got round to posting.

I'm a hedge layer and coppice worker based in Cheshire, I'm into my third season of hedge laying but it's tricky finding the work.

I'm not a farmer but I thought this is the right place to be chatting
Welcome.
Put some pictures up of some hedging you've done in one of the fencing threads. Always good to see hedge maintenance done properly.
Which side of Cheshire are you, and how far do you travel?

We're based in south cheshire and willing to travel an hour depending on the work, I'll have a look at putting some pictures up when I get home, thanks
