Introducing Landbitz! It's new and it's free!

Landbitz is the first platform that connects landowners and responsible metal detectorists and it’s now available in the UK.

We are a group of responsible metal detectorists with the utmost respect for history, nature and the property of others and we are building solid relationships with landowners all over the world.

In other countries many landowners have already opened their gates in order to
  • Generate additional income
  • Learn about the history of their land
  • Have metal detectorists clean away rubbish that would otherwise be ingested by livestock
  • Discourage trespassers and fly-tippers
  • Promote their business and sell their produce
Landbitz is now available in the UK and we are thrilled to welcome British early-adopters.

Why Landbitz
  • It’s free
  • Accept or deny all requests at your discretion
  • Manage your listing anytime from anywhere

We are here to connect. Ask us anything you want, give us your feedback and Sign Up now!

Hello JCMaloney, Thank you for taking the time to reply.
You're correct. I am Fred and I am the person that posted Relic Pass in the past and I would like to reassure you that there is nothing fishy about it. The answer, as usual, is a lot simpler: since the platform went live outside of the UK, for practical reasons we had to change the name 'Relic Pass' and we decided for 'Landbitz', so no mystery there. Different name but same concept, same bunch of outdoor enthusiasts!

We are a group of friends that comprise of landowners, metal detectorists and outdoor enthusiasts connecting digitally.
So Yes, 100% real people involved ;)
... and now that we ironed out all the necessary administrative items (somehow there's always more work than anticipated :)), we are back with even more enthusiasm and energy than before.

Of course we wished our services where met with trust and even a fraction of our enthusiasm and we are sorry to read that this didn't seem to be the case for you, so I will try to address your concerns further hoping to provide satisfactory answers to all your doubts.

On landbitz we do have a number of sample listings to provide inspiration and show early adopters in the UK some examples used in other countries where we are live. These sample listings clearly state "This is a SAMPLE Listing!".
Based on your objections I took liberty to check our existing logs and while you did sign up successfully, you also tried to book one of the sample listings. I can understand where the confusion arose, so sincere apologies for that. We'll certainly learn from this experience. We are not perfect but we will always go for relentless improvement.

Finally, our product is solid and it's working. Hours have been booked, relics have been found and healthy relationships have been established through our platform.

We are now hoping to connect more and more landowners, metal detectorists and outdoor enthusiasts, in the UK as well,
sincerely hoping that you will be one of our early-adopters and why not, possibly one of our ambassadors in the future.

Kindest regards,
Fred on behalf of the Landbitz Team

I`m surmising from your reference to "early adopters" and "relics" you are not UK based.
I also note no mention of UK legislation around:
Ownership of "finds"
The Treasure Act 1996
Recording items with the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
Ensuring landowners are able to comply with Stewardship schemes.
No mention of SSSI`s, SAM`s, FER`s and various other missing aspects.

I could help you to improve your product but I would expect the "service provider" to have checked that out first. In the UK the hobby comes with responsibilities, its not just about "finds = cash".

In Dragons Den styli, I`m out.:D

We sincerely appreciate your input .... and we just love the Dragons Den ;)

The Treasure Act 1996 is actually mentioned by myself in my previous posts on this forum.

With regards to the legislation, please be aware that when signing up on Landbitz, metal detectorists must acknowledge our terms and conditions which include, but not limited to, the obligation to abide by the 'Code of Practice for Responsible Metal Detecting', 'The Countryside Code' and must have NCMD Insurance.

Landowners as well must accept our terms and conditions in which they acknowledge that they are acting in compliance with any applicable legislation, scheme and/or code of conduct.

These were exactly those items that needed ironing out and we have taken the time to ensure that everyone on this platform will take the responsibility to act with integrity and accountability.

Like you very well say, metal detecting it's not about find = cash and we act exactly with that concept very clear in our minds.

Finally, we would love to start cooperating with Metal Detecting clubs and Search Societies.
We can all learn so much from each other and we can all mean so much for both landowners and detectorists and therefore the best hobby that there is :)
We see our services as a way to reach and connect more people within healthy dynamics, complementing and certainly not replacing what is already out there.
.... I know you said "you're out" but I am still hoping I can change your mind somehow.

I am confident that if you knew our background, our journey so far and how and why we have come to the idea of creating such a platform you would know that we have nothing but the best for the hobby in our mind.

Would you be open to the idea of speaking to us in the near future?

Thanks again for your input, it's sincerely appreciated!
