Must need to go through the crush?
Some batches do but first one will lock in crush and then get another 4 behind shut in race, simply walk along platform and apply the pour on whilst checking tags etc. Then 5 out all at once so it’s quick . Other batches can get some cake up feed passage , leave a tractor running st end of shed for some background noise and just walk behind them putting pour on on there backs. Can do 25/30 in matter of minutes

I'll have to give it a go. Had a few slow to suck the last couple of years. Cows were having minerals and pre Calver tubs but didn't seem to stop it.

Has anyone tried this with sheep. We had a problem with the cows and they were having boluses. But no problems since using iodine on there backs
We used topical iodine for a couple years from mayo health. Worked a treat, once before going on turnips and again 4-6 weeks pre lambing. Just part the wool and put it direct on skin (4 or 5 ml can’t remember)
This year we’ve used the 5 in 1 bolus containing iodine so no need.

A cows daily iodine requirement is 10mg. That means if using a 10% solution you need 0.001ml per cow per day. Too much iodine is toxic and leads to something called iodism. 1ml per cow is a thousand times overdose. You see how a small bolus can provide enough for a long time?

Putting it on the skin provides a reservoir that can be used as required. There is no risk of toxicity that way.
