in the winter I use trace element services cattle mineral sprayed on the silage face twice a week (copper 12 mg, zinc 14mg, cobalt 1 mg, selenium 1.2mg and iodine 2mg all per 1 ml, and 8 to 10 ml per animal per day). Also put trace elements on the pastures (7 years ago), but no iodine in it, cobalt 3.9%, copper 13.8%, selenium 0.3%, boron 0.8% at 2kg per acre.

I wouldn't say spraying iodine on 2 herds of cows every week is easy.

I haven't had any experience with iodine but it must be possible to get in cake, surely?

That would be the easiest way especially with tsunami of freshly calved cows coming up soon.

10ml 10% iodine on their back/flank weekly. If you think it is burning them dilute with water 50:50. Lots of people do it around here. Had a mineral consultant out over my high copper levels. He said the iodine component of the bolus does not last long enough so keep putting it on their backs. Cheap and easy.
What sort of iodine? Just normal or a special?
