So I bought a Verint dome camera... quite a tool by all accounts and very well built. I gave £20 for it, still in box etc.
its a V4320FDW-DN and it takes a microsd card, heater and alarm ports etc.

The problem is that I have no idea how to set the thing up..... Verint seems very corporate with no consumer advice, downloads or anything much. Can I use some generic ipcam software to control it such as genius?

going to try and plug it in later and see what happens.

Once you’ve got it up an running you can enter the details into an Ipcam app, need to get it running 1st.

Cheers guys. I had to buy a better Poe injector to fire the camera up. It's running through genius NVR software at the minute although I can't get a free licence so it cuts out. I can't seem to get video via the browser screen (chrome and edge) for some reason although I can change the settings.

I suppose I'm going to need some management software for alarms and recording..... any suggestions? Free hopefully!!!

The only good free software for monitoring IP cameras is Zoneminder but it's Linux based. Unless you have some experience running or configuring Linux I'd avoid it. I have been using it in our lambing shed the last few years and it's okay. But I'm pretty familiar using Linux as I do web-dev as a side job and all my sites run on Linux based VPSs - so I use Linux everyday.

Aside from that, try Blue Iris. It's has a free demo for you to try and I don't think it's too costly to buy either. It's much easier to set up than Zoneminder and has many great features which Zoneminder lacks.

One of it's strongest features is that it can auto probe IP cameras and configuring them automatically. I've used it to find the video paths for use in Zoneminder for some of the cheap IP cameras I've bought.

Personally, I've found Blue Iris to have better performance too, the camera feeds are less prone to things like screen tear which happens with many of the cheaper end cameras.

I would have used Blue Iris for our lambing/calving set up but I had a spare Linux server running in my house so it made sense to me to use Zoneminder. But I think Blue Iris is a far superior and easier to use product.
