iPad in tractor

I am coming round to the idea of logging all arable activity on green light grower as it happens and even logging loads of muck delivered to field heaps, time spent ditching hedging fencing topping etc.

To achieve this I need to mount an iPad in each tractor permanently or at least keep in a strong case that can handle being bounced around in a tractor.

What are my options?

Do I issue 1 per operator or keep one in each tractor.

Only 3/4 tractors/combine and only 3 operators currently.

I have an iPad in my tractor because the bale bandit I have uses the iPad as it's control box. I have an otter box case and mount. The case is water and dust proof and fits into the mount which is suctioned to the window. Would recommend having a look. I got mine supplied with the bale bandit so not sure were they got it from. I'm sure a quick google will bring something up.

We issued iPads to each operator (to use gatekeeper web apps currently).

They are responsible for their iPad that way

Put them in impact resistant covers and get ram mounts - been doing this 5 yrs now and none broke yet (unlike my wife and kids iPads which they break almost weekly !)

Does the ram mount hold the iPad directly or in a case.
I couldn’t justify the price of the case type ran mount one so opted for a cheaper version which holds the bare iPad it’s no big deal as when I take it out it goes straight back into its case anyway and there is no chance the unprotected I pad can fall out of the holder, this is the route I went down if your interested https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/183320118458

Can a non cellular iPad (i.e. non GPS) be tethered to an iPhone to supply a GPS location?
I use goggle earth in the cab on the iPhone, but it would be a damn site easier on the eyes with the iPad.

Otter box case and Ram Mounts (Spaldings do them, undoubtedly not the cheapest though). There is a Ram Mount jobby that keeps the Otter Box clad iPad in a spring loaded clamp. Ram mount clamps to the door handle.

Yes it can. I often use my ipad tethered to my iphone and also tethered to one of my car’s modem.

I don’t use a ram mount. Tractor has a nice stretchy thing on top of the cool box the iPad fits in. Just take it out and rest it on steering wheel when I use it.

Which impact resistant covers do you now use on your issued iPads?
Is your personal iPad , a Wifi and SIM card one or Wifi only?
