Scientists in Geneva warn that cutting carbon emissions from cars and factories is not enough

Attempts to solve the climate crisis by cutting carbon emissions from only cars, factories and power plants are doomed to failure, scientists will warn this week.

A leaked draft of a report on climate change and land use, which is now being debated in Geneva by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), states that it will be impossible to keep global temperatures at safe levels unless there is also a transformation in the way the world produces food and manages land.

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading the Guardian than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. And unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. The Guardian’s independent, investigative journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. Support the Guardian – it only takes a minute. Thank you.

Another report by people with an ulterior motive.
No mention of reducing air travel and the many other frivolous waste of resources that are now the norm in western society. Getting in a car to go to a gym then buy something that ends up in landfill within weeks is never questioned. Nor is burning fuel to mow a lawn for what? To create an immediate waste disposal problem. We are a society seemingly built on the need to waste resources to keep the system going.

Until people are willing to make personal sacrifices to do something about what is in front of their noses, these reports are best ignored.

Speaking to friends earlier, they are going to Toralimos (sp) several times this summer. £20 return with Easyjet from Bournemouth. And then people moan about cattle!
