I am probably going to be popping across the water later next week or the week after for a few days. Are there any Agricultural Shows still on this late? Location not that important as it's not hard to move about ;)

I was biking up in NW Scotland a few years ago and had a great day out at the local Ag show and have done something similar since then and always enjoy myself and learn a lot!

The national ploughing championships are on in Carlow from the 17 to the 19th of September . The ploughing is the ultimate Ag event you will never forgive yourself if you miss it by days ago so get your skates on the!!

Thank you folks... I thought it might be on around this time, as I recall seeing signs when I have been over in September before... I've heard tales of huge crowds and epic partying etc...

From the looks of it, using a bike will be the perfect mode of transport with huge crowds to deal with getting both to the event, and away! Only issue, is it's a fair trek to my bed in Kinvarra!!

Thinking of taking the bike myself, be there a couple of days with local accommodation which can be found here -

Kinvarra is a lovely place alright.

Do they allow you to park a bike near the pedestrian entrances, and shoull I take a puck for the sidestand? ;)

Which is the best day to be going... anything to be looking for there?

Defo take a puck as they'll be no hard standing, as for getting close to the entrance the best thing is to talk nicely to the stewards, there's a good chance they'll wave you on. Weather is meant to be good for early in the week, Weds tends to be the busiest day so I'd advise Tues or Thursday. The machinery tends to be in the centre.

Great advice, thank you. I remember going to the Welsh a few years ago and ended up finding a fence stake to use on some wet old ground!

Tuesday would be a struggle, but Wed or even better, the Thursday could well be an option. Just have to see how it all gels tomorrow. I'll have a look for an airbnb a bit away and suss out prices. Any recommendations for the quietest direction to approach from ;)

Was there for sneaky look today, 1,700 exhibitors they say, and I can believe it. There are a few new items, including a couple of machines to be launched by a certain manufacturer of big green balers while all the slurry equipment guys are bursting with new dribble bars for retrofitting. One or two quieter developments as well, but there will be plenty to drool over so keep the cheque book at home lest you're tempted!

Whichever way you approah the site you'll be directed and diverted and none of the routes will be quiet. Best to get there early as poss.

Well the big green baler turned out to be a few updates, new digital thingies and a sticker on the side which said 'Pro'. Nothing wrong with that but hardly worth a prize and so the Machine of the Year Award went to a pasture slitter/ripper that breaks up the sward before new seeds are scratched in with a tine rake. So well done to Paletine Engineering of Co Limerick, which just happens to be run by a mate of mine.

Other than that not a lot that was new or exciting, except for the decent weather which is quite remarkable. 102k visitors yesterday and it was a lot more crowded today.

I went last year.... unbelievable, 100,000 visitors per day.... the vast majority aren’t farmers !

There are only 137,000 farms in Ireland!

It's become far more than a farm show, I believe it is the biggest outdoor event in Europe now. There are always the complaints about it becoming a country lifestyle show but at heart the focus is still very much on agriculture.
