Iron sulphate

I S will not treat the cause, just treat the symptoms. Compaction/bad drainage,
Leaving some pasture length (say more than 5cm) going into winter will keep moss growth restricted. Spring growth will beat moss in the spring. Moss grows when pasture species give it room. So why are the pasture species thinning out? Soil structure/drainage, or soil fertility deficits?

Grab your spade and check your soil profile. Is it sealed off on the surface due to mud at some time, or is there a drainage impediment such as heavy clay or a pan further down?

If you haven't got recent soil fertility test results, get it done. No one can manage what hasn't been measured.

Very good advice.

The deal with my Moss is that it likes shade and moisture. Which are two things that are unlimited here. Taller grass provides the shade. Rain provides the moisture. Raising the PH will only give my moss a wider PH band to live in. My Moss spreads in the winter and goes dormant in the summer. For me the best way I have found to deal with Moss is bury it with compost, FYM or soil. Then plant on top of that. Bale grazing works very good as well if I broadcast seed in the bales path just prior to unrolling. It can take a couple of years but I am not sure what else a poor farmer can do other than improving drainage. Just how that is done on peat is beyond my experiences.
